About tests in the US, consider this: https://youtu.be/P2hXnt9xrvY

Started watching it, stopped when it turned out to be leftist propaganda.
The unfortunate truth is that lots of people are using this crisis to point fingers, assign blame, and try to push their political agenda. I wish people would stop that and just deal with the problem.

Actually, I didn’t. Apologies. Take all the credit you want.

Do wish someone I trust had a definitive answer as to whether people who have picked up CORVID-19 but are not yet showing symptoms can spread it. The problem is, the CDC was still on the fence about this last time I checked and there seem to be as many pundits and self-proclaimed experts saying no as saying yes and I'm not inclined to trust any of them.
I’m still working and visiting people’s homes....

As I understand it, the virus attaches to your mouth/throat/airways and multiplies from there, until such a point your immune system kicks off with fever, coughing etc.

So before an infected person starts to cough, etc, my working supposition is that they will have an ever increasing viral load that they can spread from their face/mouth etc onto whatever surfaces they touch.

If I don’t touch those surfaces, am fastidious with hand washing, and careful to not touch my face, I think I am at little risk, and little risk to others.

The U.K. government seems to be adopting the stance that this virus is unstoppable but must be slowed to give our Health Service a fighting chance of treating the vulnerable. I suspect they are gambling that the non-vulnerable will simply get it, recover and get back to work.

I'm over 70 and have heart and respiratory issues, but I'm lucky, in a lot of ways.

Retired, so don't have to worry about being exposed at work by someone who's banking their sick days.

Live alone with my dog, and about the only visitor I ever have is the exterminator every 3 months, so don't have to worry about anyone else bringing it into my home.

Had my annual checkup in January, didn't pick up anything then, so no need to visit a place with an above average risk of being exposed to whatever nasties are currently making the rounds for the foreseeable future.

Not a churchgoer, so not inclined to consider COVID-19 a test of my faith.

Haven't visited a restaurant since the first few days I was down here and my refrigerator hadn't been delivered yet. It's been even longer since I went to a sports event, concert, movie theater, or bar. Haven't been to a gun show so far this year, suspect the ones coming up this month and next may be cancelled. If not, may take my chances and go.

Aside from Walmart and the supermarket I don't really go places where there's much chance of being in a crowd. I'm not a prepper but I do keep a well stocked pantry at all times, so hoarders stripping store shelves of things like TP and rice are not a problem. Beyond that, I tend to food shop at times when stores are least crowded. Gun shops and ranges are about the only other places I visit. They're never that crowded and I also tend to visit them when most folks are at work.

Paul, my wife is a Pharm D, and although not an MD, she does stay on top of things..
That being said, the answer to your question is yes.
Although it is in fact harder to spread it before symptoms have set in, it still very possible that they can - and do. So yes.
And, that being said, I - we are of the notion that this is very, very, contagious and people should really take heed as to what the CDC and local govt are asking them to do.

Here in the Kansas City area there are certain items on store shelves that are disappearing rapidly. The store I went to today ( Target) had limits of "TWO" on many items in the store. After looking for 3 days I was finally able to get some more bleach, paper towels, and some other food items at my local Target store. I won't go to "RIP-MART" ( W==-M#*t)because I've heard that there are fights breaking out in their store here in Blue Springs, MO USA over really stupid reasons>> fighting over packages of toilet paper for crying out loud  And I think the TARGET store is handling the problem a lot better than "Rip-Mart" is. They have a lot better security people at TARGET and also seem to be better stocked throughout the store.

And what really scares me is that for all intent and purposes I really don't think we are at any serious crisis level at all>> at least not at this time anyway. These shortages make no sense other than people acting with their emotions instead of their brains  . I've been stocked up on food items since mid January. I could stay in my home for at least 3 months without having to leave. I doubt if most people have more than a week's worth of provisions at the most.

So far I think a lot of this panic is being generated by mainstream news outlets. We just don't have that many here in this area that are sick or testing positive for the virus. We had one guy die of the virus over in the Kansas side of the city and that's been it so far>> and just to think we are having fights break out over toilet paper, soap and other various items. Talk about adults acting like children with mental problems. I would hate to see what would break out if we were at a serious stage of this problem. Because people are not being cool or wise at all here in this area.

All we can do now is play it by ear and keep track of what is happening in our local areas.

That's were the big changes will take effect and they will lay out the guidelines etc. They will be different depending on what area you live in..

So it's a day by day thing now.

We will get past this and things will return back to normal.

Insane to think that right now, as of 8:00 in my New York state...that every bar, restaurant, gym, casino, etc is closed to the public. We have 900+ confirmed cases, up 200 from yesterday. Pretty scary to think how many more people there are that haven't even been tested. Definitely something none of us will ever forget.

They are doing that to try and keep people home, no reason to go out etc.

Smart move really.

One big move a person can make to help avoid contact with this virus is to stay out of "Public Restrooms" if at all possible. Most public restrooms are not cleaned and sanitized on a regular basis and are a harbinger for disease even in good times. Also I was talking to a couple of ladies here in our local neighborhood and community. We chatted about a wide range of things to help prevent the spread of this virus.

One lady brought up that it would be wise to stay out of fast food restaurants. And her list of reasons for keeping away from fast food joints really made a lot of sense. I would add to that to not go into any stores ( grocery and general merchandise) alone. The last two times I've went out to find additional supplies I've gone with two extra people along. Because these fights breaking out can be of a valid concern>> it just makes sense to go in a group or at least go with a trusted friend if nothing else.

Common sense seems to be ignored in tense times like these so by all means try to keep your head and try to avoid any confrontations if possible. Also go to stores very early in the morning at a time when stores don't have a lot of people in them.

I’m currently out of work, and in my profession there is no way to work remotely online.

I look forward to the time (it has to come at some point) when the panic buying slows down. I am really tired of seeing shelves bare of essentials. I do have some stocks of essentials that I got before these panic buyers, but not for forever.

I’m self-isolating, and only going out when I have to, like to the store or the bank (I don’t do online banking).

All this said, even though I naturally have worries around this, as pretty much everyone should, I refuse to panic. I’m also glad I don’t have kids, nor do I need to care anymore for an elderly parent. That last bit sounds bad, but my mom passed away in December, and I am grateful that she didn’t have to see this coming, and I won’t have to worry about possibly infecting her.

I am talking care of my eldery Mother so I have to be careful.

I don't go out unless I have too, food.. She is a picky eater so I have to go out every other day to get something that she will eat.

And that changes all the time... And she has dementia so I can't leave for too long.... Just makes this whole thing harder to deal with...

Yes. Most of last year, I missed work and couldn’t leave for more than an hour or 90 minutes at most, just to shop. I’d have to remind her to stay seated while I was gone, as her balance had become poor, and she was headstrong and sometimes would get up anyway and not use her walker.

But I must say that I’m thankful to have been there for her. She had done so much for me when I was younger...

One thing that caring for her helped me with was I know I can do it, and I did a pretty good job, if I say so myself. Of course, as Sal says, “pobody’s nerfect,” and maybe some things I could have done better, but overall, I cared for her to the best of my ability.

Another thing it taught me, which is holding me in good stead now, is patience. I’ve always been a very patient person around most things, but last year in particular taught me even more patience. And this goes back on-topic; I’m annoyed by lots of things that are going on right now (the panic buying being foremost), but I can handle being stuck at home for long periods when I would rather be out doing things. Which makes me doubly thankful I have no kids who need constant stimulation to keep from going stir crazy.

Oldest son just got an email saying the rest of his college semester will be finished online. Going to have to up our groceries since he'll be home now. Kind of sucks for him as this was his 1st year of college and he was doing well. Hopefully he keeps up the momentum.

As of tomorrow our hospital will have a Task Force response set-up outside our E.R. Our E.R. has been getting absolutely hammered. Boss came by our clinic today and said she might have to pull some of our staff to back up the E.R. Our hospital wellness center is shutting down the gym and only keeping the rehab/physical therapy part of the facility open. Kind of suck as I use the gym 3 times a week - guess I get to be lazy.
