Man, sad day for pet lovers. My brother had to put his much-loved little pup to sleep today, too. She was 15 and almost totally blind and deaf, though, so it was a mercy. It's so heartbreaking that our fur babies live such short lives compared to ours.

Sorry to hear that Rick. They really are part of the family! We're currently going through our own issues with ours right now as well :(

About a month ago he began holding up his rear left leg, or not putting much pressure on it if he were to put it down on the floor. He's a wild one, so we thought maybe he strained something. Gave it a few days and it didn't seem to be getting any better. Took him to the vet and had xrays done and they thought it could be a variety of things. Gave him some medicine thinking it was a nerve issue, but that didn't improve anything and only made him very clumsy and out of it.

Last week my wife took him to a specialist at Cornell college around an hour away from us. A couple days prior to going, we began to notice that his head, just in front of his ears looked like it was beginning to collapse into his head a bit, looking a bit deformed. Cornell determined that his leg isn't causing him any pain, and that he may have some kind of lower spinal injury, some kind of autoimmune disease, the possible dreaded "C" word or a couple other things. Very frustrating not to know at this time without even further testing (MRI and spinal tap...$2,500!) Last Thursday they started him on a steroid pill he takes twice a day. He has began to use his hind leg a bit more, which is very encouraging...but his head is getting worse. Back to the vet tomorrow. He's also only 7 or 8 years old and it's breaking our hearts seeing multiple issues going on with him. The most recent Manix 2/Rex 45 will be my last knife purchase for a bit, as taking care of our Tony is certainly more of the priority at the moment and that's where any extra money is going.

This is a picture my wife took of him at the specialist...DID NOT like the vet touching and poking him! Hiding in the corner under my wifes chair!

Thanks Rick. Sorry to hear about your troubles as well.. sending good thoughts out to Tony and your family, and hoping for a full recovery!

IMHO, there are two kind of people on the Earth: people who have dogs and dogless people. I feel sorry for the second group.

Those are cute dogs. I had shih tzus and labs 12 years ago and they're all gone now. I am thinking about getting a small breed when the crisis is over. What do you think of toy poodle or terrier?

I don’t feel sorry for dogless people, but neither do I trust them as readily as dog-lovers.

Nice to see you back. Been a while.

I’ve been wanting to tell you what I have discovered about the quote in your sigline. I’m an Orwell admirer, like you evidently, and certainly agree with the quoted sentiment. Seems, however, that those words aren’t Orwell’s. FYI: https://www.google.com/amp/s/quoteinves ... h-men/amp/

I'm thinking of raising a fur baby. Can anybody suggest me a suitable breed? It's better if you could suggest a breed doing good with newborn babies.
It’s tough, but I would suggest a Labrador Retriever. They almost never eat newborn babies, unless extremely hungry. :)

Sure is, saw his face and his mish mash of black and white, loved that pic.

Funny how annoyed they seem of us taking their pics 😂

I judge people by their dogs, or the way dogs act around them. Doggos are usually good judges of character.
