So does Spyderco typically announce discontinued models from the year all at once? If so, when and how?
Generally late October through late November

And sometimes it’s a real fire sale for a few days depending on the model. Probably the lowest prices you will ever see.

All at once. There will be an official post here when it happens. Once that goes live, the discounts happen at retailers. If you see something you like, i wouldn't hesitate. Plenty of people here took some time to think it over, only to find out that the knife they wanted was sold out everywhere.

The McBee was similar to the Kapara, Smock, and Ikuchi in the sense that it sold out everywhere when it was available. I just can't see that one getting discontinued just yet. We need at least one more run of McBee!!! :D

If the K390 Police4 is on the block, I’ll probably get one as a backup (aka “pre-need replacement” ).

I don’t do backups ordinarily (I did get another BBS Manix2 before BHQ made M4 more available).

But I think the slicy Police4 is superb, even with its Seki City lock-rock, and, as it is Sal’s most recent and possibly final statement of what he wants the Police to be, another one is pretty compelling to me.

Me too. If the P4 gets discontinued, I'll probably go buy several on close out--enough to keep me stocked with P4s in K390 for the rest of my life.

If I'm not mistaken, I believe Sal has said that once the Police LW is firmly established, the Police 4 (K390) will no longer be made.

If true, and “firmly established” is key, then I think we’ll not see the Police4 disco’d for at least a year, which is fine by me.

Indeed fine by me as well, although I don't remember his exact words, and I certainly don't want to be the cause of any misunderstanding, but it was something to that effect, that the G-10 variant would no longer be produced at some point.

Better that than the Police, haha.

Hope the Police 4 sticks around for another year. I know it'll get cut eventually, seems all larger models do, but its such a fine model.

At least around here, seems it did worlds better than the Police 3. Hardly ever see people carrying those, even back when they were current.

I don't mind there being lightweight versions of any model. Bring them on. But i hate seeing them flat out replace G10 models, especially those with liners. I fully understand the market's obsession with weight reduction, but it's unfortunate. G10 models have more of a classic and durable look. FRN seems like plastic.
