Great shot.

I haven’t always been a lanyard guy, but I’ve been a big fan of lanyards on fixed blades lately, and recently added one to my Dragonfly. Your photo is making me think about adding one to my Huntsman too!

thanks. i agree on lanyards. i don't typically use them. i find myself putting them on knives and then quickly removing them because they get in the way or add annoying bulk. this lanyard has managed to stay put for years though because it's multifunctional and the sak usually rides in my bag instead of in my pocket. the bead section of has five beads that can slide back and forth between two knots. this is my modified take on pace counting beads. i slide one down for each 100 m. when they've all returned to the upward position, i've traveled approximately 1 km. the lanyard also has a small ferro rod and emergency whistle. both are meant to be used as emergency backups to larger, more effective versions that i also carry, but both will get the job done. i've actually been meaning to make another one of these for the larger rangergrip sak i've been carrying lately. thanks for the reminder. :)

I would use the lanyard ring by putting para cord through it, and tying the other end to a belt loop, if I was carrying and using the SAK anywhere it could be lost if dropped, like around water, or if I’m using it near a high drop-off point. That’s the only purpose Imwoukd use the key ring feature for.

You're welcome, PeaceInOurTime.

You probably already know this, but for anyone who is unfamiliar with Victorinox locking models:

I own a Victorinox Soldier model like the one in the video, and it's great. It has a dual liner lock, that locks the knife blade and the large screwdriver. I also own an older Victorinox Trailmaster SAK that is NOT one-hand opening, but has the exact same liner lock setup.

A word about the liner lock: It's different from the standard Michael Walker-designed liner lock. The Victorinox liner lock is more like the much older liner locks on electricians pocketknives. My first locking knife was a large Schrade/Old Timer folding hunter back in the 1970s called the Mustang, which had a brass liner lock that's also similar to the current Vic Soldier's. The difference is the Vic's is made of stainless steel, and unlike most modern liner locks, it unlocks left to right, instead of right to left.

The Vic design also has a tiny bit of vertical play, but that is the design. It has a backspring, so basically it's held open by the backspring, and the locking liner is merely an additional safety measure. But the chances of it accidentally unlocking are virtually zero, as it requires a conscious effort to unlock it. Also, the Vic's liner lock will probably never wear out, because it doesn't wear against the blade tang, and doesn't have a ball detent like a standard, modern liner lock does.

I have a few SAKs including a Hunstsman I've had for probably 35 years, but only a single classic. I've found the classic to be quite a bit less useful and kinda cheapishly built, but it is kinda cute. I see the minichamp is about the same size as a classic, but thicker. Looks like it might be quite a bit more useful, but still pretty tiny. Is a minichamp worth having? Is it better made than the classic? Worth more than a Huntsman? It's priced as much as a lot of the 91mm models.

I have started keeping a Bantam by the front door. We get so many parcels from ordering online and I have to cut them open. With the Vic Bantam, the razor sharp 84mm blade does what I need it to do and when it gets dull, and boxes and plastic will dull even S110V fast, I don't have to spend all day sharpening it.
