New Proposed Model - Spyderco Antilles

Greetings all,

This is an idea that's been kicking around at the back of my mind for a while now. It's based on the intersection of some of my favorite knife characteristics, and I believe it might fill a gap.

I really enjoy compression locks, and the Caribbean brings that easy to use, safe, sturdy locking system to the Salt line at last.

However, the Caribbean is too large to carry in a lot of jurisdictions that still feature lots of marine activity and saltwater recreation. While there are many smaller Salt models, there isn't yet a smaller Salt knife that features a compression lock.

Thus - The Spyderco Antilles.

Here's version 2:

It's basically a Lil' Native Salt - sheepsfoot - with LC200n. Blade shape inspired by the Sheepsfoot Caribbean, and there's a hint of Pingo in there as well, but with a usable spydiehole.

What are your thoughts? I know I'd like to buy one! :D

It really wouldn't take much to make a Lil Native Salt, especially since it's already linerless.

Agreed. I've asked for that before and would buy a Lil Native Salt for sure. I really want to see Spyderco use the day glow neon yellow G10 on some Golden Salt models.

That shape almost makes it seem like it could work as a folding kitchen knife, that your knuckles can clear the cutting surface if you are using it as a chopper. Real practicality of that in something smaller is questionable until we actually find out, but it'd be pretty novel for sure, especially in that steel.

Really nice drawing. I like the overall shape with a little bit of the sheepsfoot shaved down. I lived in Curacao for a year. Would have been nice to have a knife like this back then.

Actually the compression lock has liners, the lock back does not. I have and will only buy linered knives. Looks really good. I would buy one in black with liners.

Liners for the win!

I like this blade shape. I usually don't like choils on small knives, I'm torn.

This idea has merit, and I’d buy it if I was environmentally urged AND jurisdictionally pinched to do so, but I don’t foresee this happening in my life.

I did take my Dragonfly Salt to the Caribbean, so that does influence my thoughts.

Happy to see the positive responses! I'll attempt a version 2 with some suggested changes later tonight or tomorrow. Appreciate all the feedback.

I like it, but would like to see 2 other models of this knife, for larger hands and larger tasks. One in the Native 5 size and one in the Native Chief size. All 3 with the same blade shape as your prototype, LC200N, and yellow scales.

Edit: I don't mean to sound like I want you to design 2 more, just that I'd like to see all 3 in production.
