Hi all

Sorry about this, but I'm about to go insane.

I've Inherited my fathers CBC Model 651 single shot shotgun.

I cant find any info on it what so ever, I've posted topics on various shotgun forums but without any answer.

What Im trying to find out is if anyone knows about the brand CBC, if its any good or just a pretty paper weight, also the version I have is a sawn off shotgun with wooden pistol grip, 12 gauge and is the same length from front to back as from my fingertips to my elbow.

I'm also wondering if it was produced like this as a sawn off or if it was full length and was altered before my dad got it.

It belonged to the South African Police Force and these models I've been told where used for riot control with rubber shot, there where 2 available which my dad organised one through a friend n the force.

Any info what so ever would really be appreciated.

many thanx

Probably Companhia Brasileira de Cartuchos. See:

http://www.cbc.com.br/magtech/texto.htm

Their contact information is:
Companhia Brasiliera de Cartuchos
Avenida Humberto de Campos
3.200, Ribeirao Pires
09400-000 SPAIN

Their home site is www.cbc.com.br, which is in Spanish.

See:
http://www.cbc.com.br/magtech/visita/tx_v_arma.htm
for a very brief English description of their firearms manufacturing.

The simplest thing to do would be to e-mail them, at the link provided on their site:
http://www.cbc.com.br/magtech/email/texto.htm
That said, the way to make sure a firearm is safe is to take it to a skilled gunsmith. Even if it left the factory in top shape, one never knows what it went through.

MaNcEr;
Careful, sounds like it is so short that it would be considered a "sawed off shotgun" which carries very stiff Federal punishment. Go on line & research what the regulations are for your state or call the local ATF guys & ask them, you DO NOT want to get caught with a sawed off shotgun... remember Ruby Ridge? that was started by the possession of a sawed off shotgun. When I was a cop one of our entry team guys had something very similar to what you are describing, so I think very short single shot shotguns are not uncommon to police work. Perhaps if you want to keep it as a keepsake it could be modified so it would not fire & registered like a non firing machinegun, again ask the local ATF guys.
Be careful!

C Carlson,

MaNcEr is in South Africa, home of cars with built in flame throwers. I don't think he needs to worry about U.S. gun laws.

hehehe, indeed I am in the RSA (for now), the I've emailed the agents for CBC and it looks like it comes standard as this length, from what Ive read in the US, it would not be considered a "shotgun" becuase of it not having a stock but a pistol grip, Ive read the ATF regard these as "AOW" or "Any Other Weapon" which are legal in this length but carry a tax which is paid to the ATF.
I've been in the states a few months back and looks like I will be coming back sooner or later, could be for an extended period, if I do I'll see how I can bring my firearms with me as these are inhertied from family, they mean alot to me and the "shotgun" for example would never be used, it just a pretty piece that has lots of memories.

Hi Carlson, just thought Id post this for info porpouses, I see you get a lill 3 shot pump action called a super shorty, its only 12" long!!!!, so my dads ol "shotgun" is a fair tad longer than that, she must be around 14" which seems to be standard size for "AOW's".

"An A.O.W. is a weapon classification utilized by the B.A.T.F. to categorize and restrict those weapons that are not considered to be a rifle, pistol, or machinegun. An example of an A.O.W. is a short-barreled shotgun or a pen-gun. They are class III (NFA) items, and must be approved for transfer to individuals at the federal level (with a "form-4&quot<img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>. Cost to transfer= $5.00"
