Cool looking, but I don't see it being much of a user...which is a shame with that 20CV steel it has. I'd just use BD1 if it were strictly for looks. Regardless, I like it though. Always know when the internals need to be cleaned!
I too would love clear scales (who doesn't like seeing the worky gubbins?)
But there was a post about white micarta and G10 where I made the comment that these were a 'mank attractor'* and end up minging pretty fast:
Every bit of of fluff, lint, and stuff from your pocket will be immediately visible jammed between the scales
Plus- the more optically clear the plastic- the more quickly it will look battered from scratches and dinks.
Warhammer 40000 is- basically- Lord Of The Rings on a cocktail of every drug known to man and genuine lunar dust, stuck in a blender with Alien, Mechwarrior, Dune, Starship Troopers, Fahrenheit 451 and Star Wars, bathed in blood, turned up to eleventy billion, set on fire, and catapulted off into space screaming "WAAAGH!" and waving a chainsaw sword- without the happy ending.
Clear scales reveal construction. Not a big deal for spyderco, but some companies may be exposed for having weak internals while claiming to be hard use.
Very nice looking Manix. Kind of gives it a mechanical or robotic type look. My manix knives are heavy use farm knives. These scales are not cut out for my manix role.
I am still waiting on a translucent orange Manix (yellowish orange would be neat).
I Pray Heaven to Bestow The Best of Blessing on THIS HOUSE, and on ALL that shall hereafter Inhabit it. May none but Honest and Wise Men ever rule under This Roof! (John Adams regarding the White House)
Follow the Christ, the King,
Live pure, speak true, right wrong, follow the King--
Else, wherefore born?" (Tennyson)
If they were on a knife that had liners, clear scales could be used like the sweetheart grips on 1911 pistols. Not my cup of tea, but still a neat idea.
As mentioned above, if it's actually carried and used then every bit of dirt or dust it encounters is gonna get trapped in there and make it look pretty gross after a while. That being said, it does look gorgeous. Very nicely done.
