If Spyderco were to remake the Bob Lum Chinese Folder, a light weight FRN handled version with VG10 or some other blade steel, would you be for it?

A Backlock would make it one of my favorites! I love the Chinese Folder, not so much the liner lock.

Nope, not me. I'm just too attached to that classic anodized aluminum look and feel. I wouldn't mind a lefty version though, or perhaps a compression lock that's also very lefty freindly.

I would favor a classic or maybe G-10 with a Compression or back lock.

I wouldn't mind another Lum Chinese, but please, no FRN and don't f.. mess with the lock! :)
Found this Hanwei Saguaro yesterday and ordered it, remains to be seen if they actually have it in stock. It's been scarce for a good while now..

The lum is already a thin light weight knife. Not sure I see the point.

I'd buy a FRN lock back. But I have a great looking Nissgin so I'm good

Sal, I don't expect you to divulge how much FRN tooling would cost, but it stands to reason that only knives sold in sufficiently high enough volume merit a FRN version. About how many models out of the current line up would sell well enough to justify this investment? If you would rather not say, I understand as well. It is fun to come here and start throwing ideas against the wall and see what sticks. But I don't want to waste your time suggesting things that just aren't feasible.

AFAIK molds for things like knife handles start at five digits. They aren't cheap.

I've tried the Lum design a few times and while I find it aesthetically pleasing, I find Spyderco makes a number of designs that I prefer using. I don't see myself picking up any chinese folders in the future.

Not for me but I’ve always wished the lum Chinese was given the frame lock treatment..

Perhaps a compromise is in order. Use one of the existing FRN platforms, but use the Lum Folder blade shape.

Or maybe even make a Byrd version in using one of the FRN platforms. Since Byrds are made in China, there is a joke in there somewhere, but i do not have the wit to figure one out.
