My take on the Spyderco Police...

Hello,

I always been haunted by the Police and even more by the Rookie.
But every model I have tried back in the 90's was very slippery (but easy to slip inside the pocket) and with some "serious" vertical blade play I do not like.

The wait is over. I have found a great deal on a Police Version 4: incredible steel, plain edge, and... zero blade play on mine.

As I have understood Sal decided to go his own way on that last version...

Here is my little review with a lot of pictures and some quotes from this forums.
https://nemoknivesreview.com/2019/02/18 ... JjQw-1nOfE

OK now, the reason I'm posting here is also to have a maximum of feedback from old timers and new comers about this emblematic Sal Glesser design.
They are so many models nowadays and since the 80's Spyderco has modeled a lot of patterns for modern folding matter separators. Many people consider the Military C36 as the flagship but perhaps the Police model is the real Spyderco flagship ?

Your thoughts ?

Who is EDCing the Police ?

I still do not have one of the P4's, but it is on my must-buy list.

Wish my DS stones had the old style smooth leather slips. The new suede is just floppy and unsatisfying.

And the glue on the new one is not really good too...

It's too large to EDC for me. I have tried, but as i said, it is simply too large IMO

I'm surprised how it disappears in the pocket in tip down carry. Now... it is "really" not political correct !!

My P4 gets more pocket time than any other knife I own. I love the K390 so much, particularly the way it takes a patina, that I recently picked up a backup. It's a huge knife but as others have pointed out its slimness make it an easy carry. On pocket-feel alone I prefer it to the PM2. And the huge, slicey blade is a joy to use.

On the left is my original which has seen lots of use. On the right is the brand-new one after eating a strip steak.

The Police 4 is my favorite Spyderco folder. The size is a big plus for me - it fits my hand better than most knives Spyderco makes. Very slim in the pocket. Haven't had any issues using mine in cities or at work.

I think the Police is one of their most iconic models, and I've always been a little sad at the lack of sprints it receives. I'm really excited to see the FRN version come out!

Lately I’ve been considering getting an old school stainless steel police. Anyone still carry theirs?

Thanx Nemo.

Good stuff. I'm carrying the FRN Protoype. The perfect knife for me. Probably illegal in most jurisdictions.

You need to let that one leak in a video like Eric did with the Tonto PM2

Can't carry a fixed blade concealed, can't carry a balisong, can't carry an auto over 2 inches, but no limits on folders in San Diego :D

With K390 steel the police 4 is practically a Sprint run. Might look good with some blue Micarta scales though.

This will be the largest folder I've ever owned, but after hearing so many strong endorsements, I had to give it a shot. Should be here tomorrow.

If I can carry a Delica for a week, you can do the same with a Police :D
