I realize this thread has been dead for two years, but…

It’s great to see someone else who understands the needs of boaters. I learned about knives when I cut my teeth longlining for halibut and fishing for king crab in the Bering Sea 40 years ago, and now I’m just a sailor living on a sailboat in the tropics. LC200N is my go-to, and the Tusk is what introduced me to Spyderco. It is a perfect knife for working with everything up to about 5/8” line—and the shape of the spike is probably my favorite for daily splicing. It is a work of art!

About the Native 5 Salt. I just received mine, and the pocket clip creates 3 very sharp hotspots in the palm of my extra large hands. I can’t live with it. I need a replacement clip, but I also need a lanyard hole for all the reasons boaters are aware. I don’t care about deep pocket carry, but I do need to carry while also preserving the lanyard hole. Most importantly, I need to get that sharp monstrosity of a clip out of my palm. I have not moved the clip around, because it belongs where it is. It just needs to be less obtrusive and smoother.

Any suggestions?
i've not tried any aftermarket clips for spyderco knives. if the clip is sharp, maybe you could try sanding down the sharp areas...? i've heard of hot spots, but i've never heard anyone saying the clip was sharp. what about moving the clip to the opposite side so it's under your fingers instead of in your palm? i know you said you don't want to move the clip, but i assume you also don't want it digging into your hand.
keep your knife sharp and your focus sharper.

The only aftermarket clip I'm aware of for the the N5 LW is the MXG deep carry clip. Technically it does leave the lanyard hole open but it's probably awkward in real life use. I just threw a small piece of paracord on for reference.

I also seem to remember that Benchmade clips fit the Native (but never tried myself, so not sure!) - They are not vastly different from Spydercos, but a bit wider and available in deep carry too. Might fit your hand better?
Top three going by pocket-time (update March 24):
- EDC: Endura thin red line ffg combo edge (VG10); Wayne Goddard PE (4V), Endela SE (VG10)
-Mountains/outdoors: Pac.Salt 1 SE (H1), Salt 2 SE (LC200N), and also Wayne Goddard PE (4V)

You could try going clipless and drop it in your bottom of your pocket, or get a kydex sheath made for it.

Try switching the clip to tip down carry to see if that helps with the hot spots???

By “where the clip belongs, “ I meant that a good clip is more comfortable and less obtrusive there than in the other three positions on the knife. I’m a right-handed tip up kinda guy, but more importantly, I find clips for lefties and tip down people just get in the way.

Wife just bought me a Native 5 Salt full serrated for my birthday coming up, was looking for one for a while but everyone seemed to be out of stock. Found a guy selling one NIB and at a discounted price (he said it had a couple marks, but all I notice is 2 very small marks on the clip).

I prefer full serrated blades as I find them easier to sharpen. And After running the blade over my Sharpmaker last night it feels much sharper (do that on all my new serrated knives).

Going to order the deep carry clip as I do not like how it sits in my pocket. Yellow is fine for me as I work outside in a big Park/baseball field complex and the yellow will be easy to see if I ever drop it.

I wanted the FRN handle for the lightweight.

I’d love a fully serrated Native Salt with the new Pacific 2 / Salt 2 Green handle!
