They are using amorphous metal as a thin edge laminate. There are many knife available with this edge mostly kitchen knives. I wouldn't think a working knife would be a good idea as if you rip through the laminate you're left with stainless steel.

I don't think it's actually "Liquid metal" like they were talking about on Bladeforums though. Honestly, it's not exactly clear what they're selling, other than a knife with a soft steel that supposedly has some sort of coating on the edge.

It's described as glass like due to the additions of elements that create a glass matrix and are cooled extremely fast to maintain this structure. Most molten metal also start off in this state until it cools and then develops the familiar metal matrix everyone is familiar with. This metal is extremely promising, but as of now I think 1 mm is the thickest they've achieved for mass production.

I don't think they would use it for the core. It's more of an outside layer but I don't know about that design.

That would be cool. Obviously not what they are doing in this case though.

How do you sharpen the sucker if it’s that strong, all my sharpening stones are quivering....
