they are going to make me pay 10 bucks so they can grind away on my spyderco police!
I broke the tip off and they are going to "reprofile"=grind away untill it is the size of a lady bug's blade.
So much for world class service!
not so happy customer.

So what do you want, anyway?
They didn't break the tip off...you did!

That is about all they can do.A broken tip is not covered under warranty and they can not replace the blade in it.
Now if it was a Military they can replace the blade with a new one for 25.00 and I would say that a G10 Police would be the same.
I learn something new everyday, even though I don't want to. Jeff

I agree with swede...
If it was a materials problem(thier fault) they would fix it no problem.
It apparantly wasn't, you broke the tip doing something abusive(I'm guessing) to it, so why is it bad service to fix your mistake?

Heck !!
How much "tip" was broken off so that re-profiling took it down to the size of a Ladybug ?????

Sounds like a good deal to me, and I bet they clean it up, and resharpen it. A friend of mine broke his blade tip, only a little so I was able to reprofile it with my 203.

Hi Hydraulicman. I think that I can safely say that the $10 relly doesn't cover the cost of shipping and handling, much less re-grinding. We also do a good job.

I have found the Police model to be one of THE most expensive pry bars on the market. Home depot sells real good pry bars cheap though I hear.

hydraulicman...If you don't want that messed-up Police model anymore you can send it to me, but I suggest spending the $10 and let Spyderco have a go at fixing it for you.

Sorry to hear about your trouble. I guess you don't have too many alternatives. You could try to regrind the blade yourself if you find a proper tool - it's damaged anyway. And if it doesn't work, send it to Spyderco, at least they'll have a real challenge

ouch. simmer people. for all you know there could have been a rare form of metal eating termites slowly destroing the tip! the point is dont covict the man till youve heard his story. there could be a very logical explanation. and if you dont want that police, ill gladly pay the 10 bucks and take it off your hands!

Look at the bright side. Now it will be under 4" and legal in more places.

I broke the tip off of one my Police models and I turned it into a trainer. I dulled everything. Since my EDC is a Police model, and I have 4 others, this made sense to me.
Oh, and the tip broke because I put it on a cement floor, open, next to my Road King, with a bunch of other tools. I forgot and stepped on it while the tip was laying on a socket wrench. Only lost half an inch or so. :-)

I can't believe you're crying over $10 for Spyderco to fix your blade. What you should realize, is that the cost must have something to do with your attitude. I sent in a CoPilot with about 1/8" broken off the tip, and sent $10 check for them to re-profile. I included a nice note asking them to do what they could, and they were so GREAT, they re-profiled/sharpened, AND sent me back the $10 check !!!!
I think Spyderco ROCKS! My guess is, you came across wrong to the sharpening dept. Probably too late for them to be good to you now, since you're trying to bad-mouth them.
TOO BAD FOR YOU

I'll give you $10 for it. I'd like a ladybug with a larger handle
Hi Radioflyer, welcome to the forum.

Howdy Radioflyer & Mex-cut! Welcome to Land!
I'll agree with most of my esteemed -Comrades on this one. You broke your knife, you pay the price. Now, if you broke the tip cutting a piece of rope, or slicing a bit of Spam for lunch, that would likely be a materials problem, and warranted.
Since the tip likely broke due to abuse/mishandling, a $10 fee to fix and reship seems definitely reasonable.
By the time you read this, you'll have already read it.
