Not “can”. They have to by law. The government hasn’t seen someone else’s dollar they don’t like.

Leatherman LE was $95 US at Knifecenter ( Leatherman does not allow shipping to Australia )and $279 non LE from Leatherman Australia. So didn’t mind a extra bit of tax

Don't mind paying taxes for those purposes but its all the wasteful spending, misplaced priorities, and bad management in the federal and state governments that occurs that I have issues with..this is getting borderline political.

Alaska is the only state with no sales or income tax.

New Hampshire has no sales or income tax either.

25 is a lot. We have 20 % on anything you can buy (online or not) here in Austria, as far as I know.
And free healthcare either, except for some high end dentistry (onlay the basic / cheapest treatment is free concerning that)

I don´t know much about taxes, but if they are designed in a way that a foreign online dealer has to pay at least the same amount of taxes in whatever country he sells his stuff to as a local dealer would, I think that´s rather a good thing (though concerning Spyderco: There really IS no local (physical / "brick and mortar" ) store carrying Spyders where I live. (@ Coffetron: Thanks for pointing out in another thread that in Vienna there actually ARE such stores. But that´s a 3.5 hours drive from where I live, I don´t go there too often tbh...))

Sounds like a business opportunity!

I prefer to support local/small businesses where I can, and this helps them compete against the larger online retailers.

I would also 100%, unfortunately my local guy doesn't stock many Spyderco knives anymore because of MAP prices. He says nobody buys them over BM anymore, which he has several display cases full of.

Yeah, virtually all of the local stores near me either don't stock spyderco or only have a few models.

Still, there's some small online businesses that I go to before the big guys.

Tennessee has no income tax but there is an onerous sales tax (almost 10%).

So do these online vendors have to file a tax return in each state they ship to? Or does their home state get all the cheddar? If it’s the home state that gets the tax revenue, then I don’t see use tax going away, since that’s the way my state gets revenue from the deal? I’m confused

I don't think we should be taxed on any goods from a retailer for stuff that tax was already collected on.

Yeah there's a tax on everything it seems. I'm sure the retailer reports it as income, so they pay taxes on that, then the state wants their cut too.
