Hi everyone, I`m new to the forum and am after some advice please. I`m thinking of getting a WAYNE GODDARD (what`s the verdict on this model?), and I can`t decide on FRN or MICARTA handle (what`s best for heavy work?). Also, I have a 203 sharpmaker, should I upgrade to the 204 (is there any major difference?). Would appreciate any help. Thanks. SIMON.

Hi Simon, welcome to the spyderco forum.
The Wayne Goddard C16BK is only available with FRN handle and uses ATS-55 for the blade.
The initial release in 1991 was with GIN-1 and a mircata handle. I don't think you can find this early model. If you can find the early micarta handle model let me know as I also would like to have this version. If I had to choose between the two I would choose the 16BK for the ATS-55 steel. I currently own 2 of the current model.

I went to an estate auction yesterday. The guy was obviously a spyderco collector. Nothing was listed in the sale add. Glass case with about 30 knives, mostly early stainless handle models. It was really in the boondocks, and I didn't have a lot of cash on hand. There were two large Goddards with micarta handles. I bought the first one for $27.50, and gritted my teeth for another 2 hours in the freezing cold, watching Police Models and early Workers sell routinely for $17.50 a piece. What a nightmare! The other Goddard never came up before I had to go to work. Both were within an inch of each other in the case. Well, at least I got one deal. I wonder how some auctioneers stay in business?

Simon, check the KnifeCenter. They had the Micarta version in stock as of last week.
