Improving The Smooth G10 Cruwear PM2
I didn't like the smooth g10 out of the box. It is a very flat, drab, dust black. It looks very boring and hides the beautiful g10 fiber glass weave.
It had a real Zytel look. "Cheap"
No pop to it
I really like the smooth g10 on the 4V Ankerson Bowie.
Just gorgeous.
So I buffed out the smooth g10 with blue "no scratch" compound on a muslin wheel.
Much much better!
Very classy!
Reminds me of the Almar Ultralight, except in Cruwear baby!
I'd like to see future "smooth g10" buffed out from the factory, except on the SHAMAN because the contours seem to show the weave better and it's more tactile without the polish and suits the hard us natural better
Can't complain though, $155 from knifecenter and still available. I love it.

Very nice! Polished G10 looks every bit as good as polished micarta in my opinion. Thanks for sharing.

That does look great. Compared to mine, it seems like you ADDED texture to it. I feel like if I did what you described, my scales would be a black mirror.
I am curious as to how the scales would turn out if they were sanded with 40 grit sandpaper followed by 2000-3000 grit for a refined rough texture with plenty of grip. It could then be further polished of course.

Sharp Guy, Darby
Thanks guys, it looks fantastic in person, honestly it just makes me really want micarta.
Hopefully we can get a Shaman in Cruwear with some kind of canvas micarta like on the temperance 2.
That would be amazing.
Might have to do it myself. I want it.
40 grit to 2k 3k
Not sure I haven't tried that.
Not sure if it would work like that.
But I haven't tried.
Id rather just have a 80grit or 120 finish for grip
OR a buffed finish for beauty.

Watched your video and I'm very impressed with the polished finish. Looks stunning! I may have to give this a shot as I agree with you, the factory finish leaves a lot to be desired.

I really like the matte black. But this is nice, too. Not compelling enough to get me to go out and get buffing compound and a bench grinder.

It's just a classier knife now guys, I love it. Has a killer "Al Mar" look and feel now.
I hope we get polished black micarta in the future or just plain micarta.

That looks great. I just disassembled mine, installed the muslin wheel on the bench grinder at work, and am about to get started. One question though. Do you think Flitz would work, or should I run to the hardware store and look for something else?

I used blue lighting which is like the pink "no scratch" compounds but better results.
In the meantime I'd play with the flitz but I can't guarantee what it will look like.
Don't waste time at the hardware store, buffing componds are NOT all equal.
Get the right compounds online at a knife making supply site
You want the" blue no scratch"
Great all around or stand alone compound.
Re: Improving The Smooth G10 Cruwear PM2
I am getting there. I just put it back together, but may take it apart again when the polishing compound I ordered is delivered. This is already a DRASTIC improvement over the original scales. This may just become a favorite after all..
