Hopefully will get one in hand tomorrow to decide. Love the blade shape, can’t tell what that handle will feel like from the pic.

Is the sheath ambidextrous? Bladehq says the knife is left hand/right hand, but I don't know if that means that its the knife or also the sheath that's ambidextrous.

Also looking forward to this one. Don't have any 4v, wonder if the finish will help with rust resistance? Glad to see the scales are removeable. Between this, the Waterway, and the Bow River, looks like some of the folders might be taking a back seat.

I really, really love this design, except for the removable handles. I had issues with significant surface rust under the halpern scales of my 4V Mule following only light indoor use. This being an outdoors knife, I would expect the problem to be far worse, unless the scales offer a much better seal against moisture.

At this price point, I'll probably wait for field reviews before jumping in. Still, one of the coolest fixed blades Spyderco has done in recent memory.

Actually you can remove the scales and put wax on it, that will prevent the rust.

You could also epoxy them on yourself if you wanted. It would be easy enough. I covered the handle of my 4V Mule with Vaseline before putting the Halperns on and it is working well for me.

I remember trying to put a thick coat of frog lube in there and it didn't help at all. But I found out later on that frog lube wasn't really that good to begin with (for my uses, at least).

I was thinking, if I bought this knife and rust showed up, I could just epoxy the handle on. Spyderco handles are always first rate anyway, so I doubt I'd ever start looking for replacements.

Edit: you beat me to it bearfaced :o

^^^ That's a pretty good one, just saying.

I REALLY like this knife. I just don't have a huge need for it currently. The price (while being completely reasonable) makes me hesitant as well. I've been dying to try 4v and it's an excellent design.

How many of these are being made? Will there be another run if sales are good?

I used tuf glide before I put them on, and check every now and then for more rust. Some minor rust, but no huge issues for me. I do live in the desert, though.

It's one of those knives that makes me wish I had a different, outdoorsier life, so that I had regular use for it.

Don't they have some excellent camping sites in Northern Cal?

Much less sand up there. :D

Corrosion X in the spray bottle works great.

I usually coat my mules in this before putting on the scales. No rust yet.

Ankerson Bowie and the Waterway are on my radar.
