Thought I'd make a quick video this afternoon.

How do you normally sharpen that Byrd?

Last night I spatchcocked a 15 pound turkey. This is where you cut the ribs connecting to the spine on either side. Then you flip it over press down like doing CPR and break the breastbone which lays lays the turkey flat for more even cooking and faster juicer cooking I might add.

1 hour 5 minutes at 450 degrees and hit 160 degree mark perfectly will post pics later.

For the job of spatchcocking most recommend either a stout thick knife or a pair of kitchen shears.

On the videos you always see people struggling doing this.

I decided to use my Spyderco Pacific Salt2 serrated edge and I mean to tell you it cut through those difficult bones in nothing flat so easily I laughed.

It helps that you used any sharp knife; most folks’ kitchen knives are just shapely putty knives. But serrations are the thing!

Using a folder on a 15lb Turkey, while at home with proper knives...seems a bit odd to me.

C95 Manix cut wrapping paper, sliced shrink wrap and did a little minor food prep.

Byrd Cara Cara CE was on zip-tie duty today (we celebrate christmas on christmas eve because most of my family, including me, works on christmas).

Thanks! I don't think I've ever freehand sharpened SE before; most times I use the Sharpmaker. I should give that a try sometime. I don't have the Smith's diamond rod you use, but I'm sure the CBN Sharpmaker rods will work just as well.

Around 25-30 cuts through this rope. So easy, probably took around 30 seconds without a single snag. This Matriarch is a beast!

I'm sure the CBN Sharpmaker rods will work equally as well. Before I purchased the Smith's rod, I almost got the diamond Sharpmaker rods. The reason for going with the Smith's is that I only wanted one rod and I could only find the Sharpmaker diamond/CBN rods in pairs, costing more than I wanted to spend.

We just call it "ragger rope" here at work. It ends up woven together and dropped into a pulper where cardboard is shredded into mush and then begins the corrugated paper making process. This rope collects bale wires, plastics, etc as the 96" diameter rotor turns it all into mush via a 700HP motor. So it's pretty strong stuff to be able to stand up to all of that.

1 cut is all it took for each :cool: Started at the heel with a pull cut with moderate pressure, sometimes it cut right through before reaching the tip. I'd say around 12-15 times it made it to the tip, which easily shredded through. I was quite impressed. I've cut this stuff before with various PE knives I have and it took a few hacks at it to go all the way through. This knife seriously is no joke. I wish it were DLC with a red handle because it deserves to be called The Demon!

Haha I love that idea! You should attach a demon tail fob/lanyard :D
Sounds like a beast!

One of the guys that gets to work earlier than I do text me this morning saying they needed to make a "tail" which is what it's called once it's all woven together. He knows my wife just got me this and said I should bring it in today. I was more than happy to do so!
