I laughed at how much like butter this knife slices into a lemon.

Forgot tent pegs, so chopped up a piece of firewood and pointed the ends with my pocket knife so we could setup our tent. Ended up being a great trip!

Removed a large invasive multiflora rose bush with the Darn Dao. I’ve wanted to really swing this thing around for a while now and this was a perfect opportunity for that. Even if this knife wasn’t necessarily intended for this type of utility use, it still worked well and was such a fun knife to use at the same time.

Yeah it’s a beast! It was the first time I’ve actually used it but it definitely won’t be the last.

Used a CruWear Micarta PM2 to cut up a big box into unnecessarily small pieces to throw in the recycle bin. :cheap-sunglasses

You are right, it is a blast to slide in an out of corners on gravel forest roads like these... It is a heavy pig in mud or technical terrain, so you have to respect its limits, but if you do it is super versatile and is just as happy on the highway with a passenger.

how do you like this compared to your wharncliffe endura in use? do you find that they are significantly different, and which do you prefer, corrosion resistance aside?

Quick answer: I'm preferring the Pacific Salt over the wharny.

In my use, they aren't too different; neither makes my cutting tasks difficult. The wharny is better for my day to day utility cutting, but the PS has better angles for cutting food, which I do often with my folders. Corrosion resistance aside, I'm really liking the lighter handle of the PS, though the linered Endura is tangibly more solid feeling.

I'm a big proponent for the wharny. It's a monster with it's significant NBA and tip placement. It does non-food cutting tasks really well. While the PS is less extreme, it does still have NBA and negative tip placement which still makes it work well for my day to day cutting. The slight belly allows it to cut on a flat surface better than the wharny.

Right now, I'm preferring the Pacific Salt over the wharny for it's general design, but especially because it's a Salt -- corrosion resistance is high on my list these days.

My PS needs the teeth knocked down a bit, a little too pointy for my preference. The wharny came with identical serrations and performed better after a few sharpenings.

Quick comparison shots:

thanks for the response! i know you're a big fan of the wharnie and have been carrying the pac salt a lot lately. that's why i asked you specifically. i really wish there was a wharnie pac salt, but i'll probably end up with a wharncliffe endura at some point and another pac salt.

The last thing my Spyderco today cut was to cut open the package that had my sprint run Delica in it.

Yep, the wharny Endura has been a dependable high performer since getting it in 2020. If there was a wharny Pacific Salt available back then, I definitely would have got it instead, H1 or LC200N. Now I just wish they would add the wave to Salt knives.

I almost sprung for the Atlantic Salt (intending to modify the tip) instead of the PS, but my familiarity with the Endura handle won out -- worked out well. :cheap-sunglasses
