Woodcarving in the driftwood, endela in k390 is awesome, but a bit too big for the job. I wish there was a chaparral in k390 or urban k390 with a back lock, slipit likes to bite my fingers too much

Yesterday I rode. The trail is in the San Gabriel Mountains, north of Los Angeles. It's cut into a near vertical mountainside, making the cost of failure... well... let's just say that blowing it is not an option. After this winter's record rainfall, there were a LOT of downed trees. Some parts of the trail were just covered in trees that had slid down the mountain. I couldn't tell you how many downed trees and bushes we had to lift the bikes over, under, and through. Dozens.

A few of the smaller trees and branches I was able to throw over the side of the mountain. Others were impossible to move. For some--please don't laugh--I whipped out my trusty K390 Ladybug and hacked through the branches. The goal wasn't to make passage possible, but to make passage easier for others who would follow.

Don't get me wrong, I really like my Ladybug. But for this application, it's kind of silly. If I had my folding saw with me, it would have been far better. Cutting through brush with the Ladybug takes longer than it does to just stomp your way through the vegetation.

I'll continue to carry my Ladybug on rides. And I'll bring my saw when I expect fallen trees. But maybe on the "intermediate" rides, I'll start putting my serrated Police 4 in my hip pack.

Used my Native5 Salt MagnaCut to chop a branch off a tree to use as a rod holder while fishing. I whittled the bark and little twigs off then carved the end into a point.

Zero edge damage. Didn't even need to be stropped. Love this knife!

Cutting up cardboard boxes for the garbage can. Also cutting strips of duct tape to extend the life of a Christmas tree box.

Good on you for helping out.

Our trails were wrecked during the recent storms as well. Most of the downed trees have been cleared by now, but a lot of the ground is clay and surfaces were wrecked by water/cows/inconsiderate bikers riding when the trails were still wet.

A silky pocket boy is a great investment for a mountain biker.

Well today I used my PM2 all black S45VN to prune a plant, cut up an apple and celery sticks, sharpened it (ASMR meditation for me), cut some paracord, stropped it (more ASMR it really didn’t need it), used it as a fidget, and oiled it.
