So, I'm working on a smaller Chokwe design. about 3.25" blade. I'm looking for suggestions. Clip type, lock (I'm leaning to Compression), handle material, color, steel?

The Chokwe is a beautiful design and would be wonderful on the smaller side.

Small knives demand wire clips, IMO. Personally, I'm partial to either Compression or Back locks. I'd also like to see more CPM 154.

I'd say the design of the scales screams foe a clip of the type used on the Lionspys. Don't know what you call them.

Compression lock sounds good.

How about 52100 steel?

G-10 scales in a nice color maybe?

Grey g10 or wood handle
Compression lock
Wire clip
M4 or psf27 steel

Assuming this isn't actually an April Fools post....

My vote would be for compression lock, wire clip, polished G10 like the Shaman or Pattada style. I'm fine with black, but I think coyote brown, dark green, or any other earthy color could work. Steel wise, I would really like to see more knives in LC200N.

Wire pocket clip, compression lock, dark-colored G-10, a stainless steel.

G-10, it's a good material. Some people say it's boring because it's used too much, but I prefer function over variety-for-the-sake-of-variety. Dark-colored, since I think things like white or light grey G-10 would look dirty fairly quickly.

I know a lot of people like their high-performance non stainless steels (M4 etc), but corrosion resistance is a lot more important to me than better edge retention. Easier to go touch up the edge a little more often than having to worry about moisture all the time and having a blade that transfers oil to everything it touches.

I love this idea.
The traditional chokwe had a wood handle. Maybe a brown g10, brown burled g10, or pakkawood would be nice.
The wire clips are my favorite. A coffin shaped hourglass style could maybe be cool. But that sounds expensive.
Xhp is always a good steel.

Thanks Sal for accepting feedback on this:

Clip type: Yes, needs a clip. I prefer deep pocket clips; however, I'm not sure if a wire clip would be best on the Chokwe. I think something like a deep-carry hourglass clip would be ideal (I hate to say it, but similar to the clip on the Benchmade Bugout... I REALLY like this clip).

Lock: One of my favorite lock types is the Compression lock, so I agree this would work well on the Chokwe. I also like the titanium RIL lock on the original.

Handle material: G-10 seems like a logical choice for a new model. Wood would also be fabulous (e.g. Pakkawood), but might be cost prohibitive. I generally like FRN, but I don't think it would go well on the Chokwe... not it's style.

Color: A more neutral or muted color would be best. Nothing too crazy.

Steel: I am a big fan of the non-stainless tool steels. My favorite is HAP40 and I think this would be killer in the Chokwe. M4 is also a good alternative.

Compression lock, maybe button actuated.
G10
Black or light brown (similar to the original wooden handle), black screws
S30v or non-stainless steels (waterproof steel makes little sense for an african desert knife)

Front flipper tab (front flip-able) would be great because it was invented in africa - if i am right.

Only real request is for the name - Chokwee :)
Suggestions: Frame lock, Pakkawood, M4 or K390, wire clip

Please back lock...the rest doesn't matter. The original had weak detent and the back lock Fixes that.

See what you did there...clever

Wire clip, maroon or gray polished g10, S30v or comparable steel to keep price relatively affordable, compression lock

Backlock and CTS-XHP, wire clip might be best for a smaller version.

Hmm....I never really looked at the Chokwe but I think that was primarily because the blade's a bit longer than what I like. I took another look and it's certainly an interesting design. A smaller version might be hard to pass up. I'd vote for a wire clip and almost any handle color other than black.

Hey Sal,
Thanks for giving us the chance to weigh in.
Clip wise, I think the long wire clip would be great so the turnaround rests outside of the grip.
Lock, I love the comp lock personally.
Handle material, I’d love to see a raffir noble (with a grey resin) as the straight lines of this design with the randomness of the raffir noble would be very visually interesting, as for standard models the pekka wood or another stable manufactured wood would be fantastic.
Steel, CTS-XHP for the timber version and M4 for the raffir noble (the patina build up would look amazing, in conjunction with that scale material)
I’d love to see it drilled for right side tip up aswell, if it’s not asking too much :)
