A fabulous knife! I prettied mine up with the help of some CF scales off a S90V second I picked up at the OKCA show last week. :) I also played around with swapping the scales and hardware of my DLC S30V one too.

I did a quick hardness test at my office of the maxamet para 3. Came up @ RC68, not too shabby. You can see the very small indentation from the probe to the left of the spyder laser mark. Probably should have tested closer to the edge... Oh well. I wonder what RC value Spydeco was trying to hit?

I was able to scratch some hardened 52100 machined parts we have sitting in our shop. The shop guys were very confused. Interesting material for sure.

Cool to see some HRC testing here! 68 HRC is a nice value I think. Is that a little chip I see there?

I already broke the point off and made several chips down the edge. Nothing that can't be fixed on my sharpening bench. Given how hard Maxamet is I expect to sacrifice on toughness. Also, I work on metal parts a lot so my knives suffer the consequences.

Just received from River's Edge Cutlery, beautiful stone washed blade, the sharpest factory edge I've experienced, almost hair whittling, just a few strops was all it took.

It's why I didn't return my Maxamet Manix LW(I just bought too many knives at once). Worried the steel won't stay production.

Is the future of the g-10 Maxamet models looking better than before? It appears that the Para 3 Maxamet has been successful, as far as no issues with the final product.

The final product is perfect (imo), the question is how much 'fallout' did they have in production. It sounds like Maxamet is a tricky steel to work with, for example if they had to produce 2000 to get 1600 perfect specimens (meaning if 400 knives didn't pass QC), it might not be worth it for them going forward. Or it might mean a price increase for offerings in that steel to make it worth it for them. I don't know the answer to that but I hope to see more Maxamet offerings in the future as well. It's a fun steel. Glad I've got 2 (Native and para3).

Grabbed one tonight off of Optics Planet. No idea when it will get here, but it’ll be a welcome surprise.
More K390 and 10V, please.
