I was shopping in NYC last weekend and I stumbled across a couple of stores that were selling Spyderco knives. However, when i checked the spyderco site, they were not listed as dealers. Would it be wise to purchase from these stores who are selling at a considerably greater price?

I doubt they are illegally selling Spydercos.
The outdoor sport shop that is in my town sells Spydercos and they aren't listed.
But the sport shop of the same chain is listed in a different city. This may be the case. And from what I am told, you have to register with Spyderco to be a dealer.

Ehh, supposed to be Thorin... : )

No. If the price is considerably greater , you're paying too much! On the other hand, if the price is considerably better , go for it.

Many small dealers can buy Spyderco products from distributors like Blue Ridge Knives. To be an exclusive Spyderco dealer entails entering into an agreement with Spyderco saying that they will buy "X" amount of knives a year. Many small dealers simply can not afford to do this, so they buy from Blue Ridge. And most of those dealers will sell at the going, competitive prices.
I would suspect that in some stores in NYC attracts more of an international tourist clientele, therefore they may be able to get away with selling the knives at a higher price.

Oh **** no! What a coincidence, for I was also shopping in NYC last weekend and I also saw Spyderco Knives being sold at a certain undisclosed location which was not listed as an authorized Spyderco dealer. At this particualar store, I saw the Merlin being sold for $75.00. But posted on the site was a considerable lesser cost, around $65.00. I thought to myself, wow this increase in price may be to extreme for me to afford, being that I am very ghetto and poor. So I decided not to purchase it. Is this a good price? Or with shipping and handling would it be cheaper to purchase it off of this website?

We're still getting all of the dealers on the site. Our main computer is having some "hiccups". We'll have them all on shortly. There are really no "illegal" dealers.

Spyderco dealers don't really have a minimum annual purchase, although there is a minimum individual purchase.

Hi FlyAzNLaU. Welcome to the Spyderco forum. Dealers will charge what they feel they need to operate their business.
