I recently sent in two of my PM2's for warranty service. Nothing really too wrong with them, just wanted the get the stripped screws replaced.
One was the Cru-wear sprint run... The other was the blacked out version.
Shipped in with package insurance; marked as delivered today after being serviced by Spyderco. After a little discussion with UPS their driver claimed that he did indeed leave it at my front door. I've been home all day, no knock, nothing. Talked to someone at spyderco and they are going to open an investigation with UPS. (always let the shipper open an investigation with the shipping company btw).
Even if Spyderco and UPS work things out between them, my sprint run in Cru-Wear is gone. I assumed shipping it with insurance would ensure they would sent it back with a similar protection - this assumption is on me.
My best hope is that UPS replaces my PM2's with a currently available product but I'm worried this is overly optimistic and they and/or Spyderco are going to write the whole scenario off after the investigation is finished. Either way, a thief has my sprint run, my most beloved in my collection of what used to be five PM2s.
It's great Spyderco has such an excellent warranty. I live in a great area and it's unfortunate but it looks like I'm out on my favorite knife because of shipping. Pay caution to my experience and make sure if you send in your knife to be serviced you are willing to be without it... potentially forever.
