If you could build your ideal Spyderco....

#1

Post by JDennis »

Mine would be a Gayle Bradley 2 style knife with the blade in LC200N and a Compression lock. The Bradley 2 blade has been one of the best all around blades profiles I have ever had. It slices, is tough at the tip and with the scales, slim in the pocket. I love the M4, but for what I do, the LC200N seems to have the best parameters. The more stainless the the better. The handle fits my hand perfectly, and the compression lock is by far my favorite lock. With my job, in the winter my fingers tend to crack especially my thumb, and liner, back, or frame locks tend to be a bear to use. If it had full CF traction based scales I would just hand over my wallet. :D

Add in a Smock style button compression lock with a standard pattern clip (allowing aftermarket deep carry) and you have my ideal Spyderco as well.

I already have mine, a S110V Military. :)

For fix blades the South Fork is it as far as smaller ones go.

For larger ones my Collaboration is it, 7" Bowie in CPM 4V.

CBBL, plain edge clad Hap 40 or similar, linerless G-10 or CF with light 3D contouring, Hawkbill, 2.5-3 inch blade, no lanyard hole, hourglass clip. Some where in between the size of a lil native and a delica. Made in Golden.

Native 5 with CPM 3V, with full stainless skeletonized liners, and either Solid Peel Ply Carbon Fiber or G10 (Red, Blurple, and Jade). One of each please!

Well.. for me ,this would be perfection...

Take an original Kiwi as the start - scales would be Sambar stag, blade would be a good Damascus.. Add in a nice little exotic leather pocket pouch for it (ostrich? alligator?) and there you have it..

Now that would be stunning but I guarantee if had that, it would be in a case and never used. Especially with a gator or better yet a croc pouch. I retired one of my Breitlings because the croc band started to stain from sweat and it was too stunning to ruin. With my skin I can only wear stainless.

The Lil Native has much of what I would want in my ideal Spydie! I might add some light jimping to the finger choil and I would like to see it offered in a steel like S110v, but other than that I actually don't know what I would change. I really don't mind S30V though, so I would consider that kind of "nitpicky."

Needless to say, I'm excited to try the lockback model when that drops!

Looking forward to the lockback Lil Native. If I could have it in Cruwear and Red G10, that would be tops!

ANYTHING in Red Micarta Scales. My preference is matte burgundy canvas micarta, but yes, we need some Micarta and Tero-Tuf folder asap!

folder

- I'd take a Police 3 in FRN with nested liners to reduce weight.

- H1 SE and M4 DLC PE options, both FFG, for extreme edge holding and corrosion resistance.

- Ti liners and corrosion proof hardware to further lighten the weight and fight the elements.

- Available in black or OD green G10

- Endura 3 style clip

- 100% flattened spine from hole to tip no rounding the tip.

- Enlarged opening hole.

- 2.5mm stock (We're getting this under 4oz)

- Deeper, more rounded choil ala UKPK

- Scales are 3D contoured like the original D'allara

Fixed blade

- Start with a Street Beat

- Add 1/2" of cutting edge

- Reduce the belly by 30-50%

- Use a minimalist, foldover kydex sheath with less bulk than the current sheath

- LC200N and 51200 options

- FRN, polished micarta, and rough micarta options

Sliverax, no bearing Military style pivot, Military style floating stop pin or Chaparral style internal stop pin, lock tab/cutout moved back about 1/4 inch, 3D contoured solid CF scales, black hourglass clip, 52100 steel.

Isn't this the same as the 'i wish Spyderco would make' thread?

Fixed blade Military, full tang, thicker stock, 5 inch blade, kydex sheath, some exotic steel. Love the Military shape! Much like the the Dark Timber 1911.

I haven't gotten around to thinking about "my" ideal Spydie. I'm still too amused being shown by the family Glesser what designs and materials I can't do without.

You had me at "Maxamet Sprig". That was the one that I thought of immediately.
