Custom Scales for a Chaparral?

Anyone done it? How about some pics? I have a Raffir with a cracked scale from the 2nds sale I want to put new scales on. Looking for ideas or people to contact about the project. I could do it myself, but I am toying with the idea of having someone do wood maybe or something else interesting. So if you have pics or links please share. Thanks!

Check out cuscadi.de I've bought custom scales from them and they were awesome. Turn around time and price wasn't bad for Germany to USA. They have a pretty good online gallery of wood project pics. Steve Sketchen does awesome work too.

Sketchen does awesome work and I hate to mention this here but it seems as though he is not in good standing in the knife community right now.

I just want to look out for my Spydie brothers here. The info on this is on BF.

Steve Ketchen made these scales for me per my design a few years ago. Sal handled this knife personally at the OKCA show two years ago and we had a discussion about sourcing this Ctek material, its durability, etc. for a new run of Chaps. In speaking to Sal this year, he said they found the Ctek to be too expensive and had identified Raffir as their material of choice. So I’d like to think that Steve Ketchen and I had a direct hand in inspiring the Raffir Noble version.

In regard to contacting Steve for scales, I’ll also refer you to the Blade Forums Good, Bad and Ugly section where Steve not only has his own (very unfortunately) Bad thread but the mods made it a stickie to stay at the top of page 1. I have several hundred dollars in knives AWOL that Steve has in his possession (including my gray Lum Tanto sprint) that even the local police can’t seem to wrangle free from him :(. Steve’s fall from grace is the biggest Spyderco loss for me in 2017, you can see why from how awesome his work is.

I had been thinking I hadn't seen anything from his Instagram feed lately. I just went back and checked and it's been exactly a year (Dec. 15, 2016) since his last post there.

That is certainly unfortunate to hear, I hope your knives are returned at some point.

Another guy that might be worth checking out is "suingab". His website is http://g10.lt/ and he does excellent work. Don't know if he's done any Chaparrals, but he did a dynamite job on a set of scales for an FRN Stretch of mine.

Just curious, but are the liners nested or is it linerless?

Thank you Nick, I appreciate that! I’m not holding my breath though, it would be just my luck to be the only person who doesn’t get their knives returned... :(

Seems like an easy template for customizing so I expected more responses.

Thank you both. :) It seems like it would be relatively easy to make scales for this model. What materials did you have in mind?

Was thinking wood or something classy and a little different.

The liners are screwed together with button head screws and the scales mount on top of that so you would need to have small recesses on the inside of the scales where those screws are. Otherwise it seems pretty straightforward.

I’m in the exact same boat as OP except one of my scales actually shattered and Now my edc is in carryable. Worst yet, it’s a factory second so I have no warranty to pull. the last reply I’m reading gives me some faith. I don’t want to beat a dead horse but whom should I get with to get some new scales for my Chaparral?
