The Vtoku-2 sprint run is bound to be popular. So I thought I might as well get a thread started for us to discuss.

I like the FRN color they chose and I'm sure the steel will be interesting. So I'll be in for a Delica, Dragonfly, & Manbug for sure.

It'll be interesting to use this steel and see how it compares in the real world to Super Blue & HAP40

Im am quite interested and excited! Gonna try and get the stretch, endura, delica and dragonfly

Finally will get my 3rd FRN Stretch 2 and if funds allow might try to get some others as well.

It should be a slicers and cutters dream. I'm looking forward to it.

BTW, what does molar % have to do with us? Wouldn't it change with heat treats anyways? The guy who made that web site did a lot of great work compiling the stuff from the factory and other websites ( matweb etc.) but as a computer programmer reading company websites as a hobby would he even have access to things like accurate molar % in steels used in cutlery?

The charts are nice but I wonder what that means for real world use.. What steel is it similar to? How does it hold an edge? Sharpen? Does it patina? I'm sure some of these answers are in the charts but I guess I don't know how to read them hah help me out SharpGuy!

Any significant difference in SUS310 vs SUS410? I know many of you have been asking for more scratch-resistant cladding.

I noticed the SUS310 too. Let's hope it's more scratch resistant than SUS410.

I think it would be helpful fwiw. Molar% makes my brain hurt...

It's closest comparison in chemistry is 52100 but with some tungsten. Tougher then super blue but not as much edge holding. It's used on alot of japanese kitchen knives, more of a workhorse steel.
The rumor is the swedish ore is cleaner and has less impurities and inclusions making a finer grain product.
Don't expect anything like Hap40 or S30v.
Best comparison would be white steel, blue steel, Ginsanko, cruforge v and 52100


I wonder what hardeness they will do? Im hoping for 63hrc and up. That would be very interesting.

Actually looks like it may be vaguely similar to Super Blue. Joe and DBH's assessments sound right up my alley.

Looks like SUS310 contains something like .25% C and 25% Cr, which is .1% more Carbon and double the Chromium of SUS410.
This would suggest better wear resistance right?

I like the denim-y FRN color.

In my Japanese kitchen knives V2 acts like a half-way point between Blue 2 and White 2. The grind on my Yamawaku Gyuto and Santoku is ridiculously thin, edge stability is impressive and with the Yamawaku HT (claimed 63-64Rc IIRC) they bend before chipping; don't cut crusty baguettes with a vegetable slicing knife!

Easy to get literal razorblade sharpness in this steel... even easier than SB.

I don't like what I see in the data sheet.It's going to be below super-blue in overall performance and way below HAP40.Good edge stability yet not super blue edge stability and a dream to sharpen but very prone to stain and corrosion.I was expecting SRS15 for this sprint
