One of many reasons is its simplicity of design. If you are in a pinch and need to clean it out the design lends itself to easy maintenance. It's offered in a variety of steels to suit most people's needs/preferences. The blade itself is extremely versatile. It is a large knife that can also do small, accurate cuts and whack the h*ll out of something if you need to. I am obviously a big fan.
Do right always. It will give you satisfaction in life.

The PM2 is the greatest folder, because i can not only carry it tip down, but also tip up.

It certainly is an iconic knife. And you can in fact operate it with one hand :D

Does that mean you only own Militaries? Because I can't close any other Spydie I have with one hand.... This knife is perfect!

Still trying to decide :p

Actually I don't have much of a selection. I carry the s110v constantly. I'd like to get some in other steels but so far nothing interesting has showed up over here. I haven't used my cts-204p much just because the clip stands out. If I can get a black clip and hardware I'd probably carry it more.

Took 10 days to find out but I guess I won't be getting the m4 because they won't ship in a padded envelope. A priority express mail package is going to light up the customs radar. Been there, paid 150 bucks shipping and customs on my cts-204p ftom knifeworks. Don't want to go through that again.

Liner locks are the most intuitive for one handed closing, but with practice its pretty easy to close a Spydie back lock or comp lock one handed. I operate the lock with my thumb and use my forefinger in the Spydie hole to fold the blade closed. Give it a try.

I use my Pacific Salt every day and it takes two hands to close it safely. I close my ukpk on my pants, don't try this at home boys and girls. I was disappointed my new P4 was not a one hander. I guess you guys are just more talented than me or don't mind losing a finger here and there :D

I don't understand why you can't close any of those knives easily one handed. I close my UKPK one handed and don't use my pants lol. For back locks, just put your index finger under the choil/ricasso area and using your thumb depress the lock and flick it out of the locked position. Your index finger will stop the knife from closing, even on knives without a choil.https://youtu.be/Usp0RX3LUYA

... regardless of what they say, size does matter. ;)

Seriously though, I do believe in the idea that a large knife can do what a small knife can but a small knife cannot do what a large knife can. The Military is big without being too big and is a versatile size, especially with the choil. It is lightweight, extremely ergonomic, has a subtle but effective negative blade angle, has just enough belly without having too much, has a nice acute tip and is extremely easy to use with gloves on.

I now have seven different versions of the Military and carry it more than any other folder.

Somewhat impressive, now try that on a 2011 BMW R1200GS. :)
