Tip care of an SS 50/50 Police

#1

Post by reg »

I have recently become the proud owner of a 50/50 SS Police MD and was wondering... the tip appears to be very delicate, beyond my doing something stupid, which is not outside the realm of possability, has anyone had point chipping (I donot know if this is the appropriate term) problems with the model.

I noticed that Tanto has come out with folders that have their unique blade design which appears to be VERY rugged. Thanks!

Beyond this there must be dragons!

I carried a police for six years before allowing other spydies to enter the EDC rotation, and im here to tell you this knife is tough. never had any trouble with the tip or anything else for that fact.
Ofcoarse this is not a knife that you want to throw into a log or board it was not designed for that. If that is what you want to do you need a wenger, a knife you can throw full force at a tree with few worrys.
The police on the other hand will do anything else. (DONT BE AFFRAID OF THE TIP)
After six years of everyday carry and having everything including a car run over it, (REBENT CLIP BACK INTO POSITION)the worst thing about the Police is trying to carry something else. After the Police other knives felt inadiquite. It took a long time to get over that.
Now at least I can carry other spydies, enjoy and use them without longing for my Police. It sits in my showcase to this day strong and ready for action.

Reg,

Welcome to the Spyderco Forum.

You'll find that Spyderco steel is pretty rugged. While I no longer play mumblypeg,
there are two knives with delicate tips:
o The Civilian
o The smaller Matriarch
Both of these knives are terrific slicers and useful for maintaining control. However, neither blade was designed for stabbing.

One way or the other, you pay for your tools!

Howdy Reg! Welcome to <img src="spyder.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>Land! <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

Don't worry about the Police. You'll break down before it does! <img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

Never underestimate the impossible.

If you don't make the mistake of trying to use the Police model as a pry-bar, you'll be ok.
