Question about the Ark Sheath

#1

Post by vivi »

I have an Ark with the updated sheath.

I can pull my Ark out of the sheath without depressing the release lever at all. I was wondering if this is normal?

It takes a good bit more force than if I depress the lever as intended, but it is not difficult to do by any means.

I use the Ark as an EDC knife rather than it's intended design, if that matters. I find it carries securely sideways on my belt and I've never had it come out of the sheath without me wanting it to. I'm asking this merely out of curiosity.

I would say no... my PE Ark is very secure in the sheath, I've tried pulling on it full force, and it did not unsheath whatsoever. Also, the release tab requires some pressure, but I would characterize it as light force.

Coincidentally, I asked my buddy to take a look at his while we're having coffee, his SE Ark definitely fits my Ark''s retention description as well.

Definitely not normal. My SE Ark isn't going anywhere unless I depress the tab.

I would say that is not normal. Contact Spyderco about it.

I have another brand that predated the ARK with a similar retention in that it has a tab you have to push with your finger. There is no way the knife can come out without depressing the tab. So, I think yours is defective.

Having no experience with one of these, I would still agree with the above. I doubt it is supposed to be that way. It seems like it is still pretty secure though.

What again was the reason for updating the sheath to the lever version? Was it that the old sheaths dulling the blade?

No, the knife was falling out of some of them.

Nope, my Ark with the updated sheath (with locking tab) does not come out without me depressing the tab. Did some material on the tab in your sheath wear off? I'd suggest conacting Warranty & Repair.
