Manix 3?

#1

Post by TomAiello »

With the Para 3 an apparent success, will there be a Manix 3--a 3" bladed Manix?

I'd love a smaller manix, something in the size of a BM mini-grip.

That's fine if you aren't interested in a 3" CBBL knife. For those of us who really enjoy the Manix CBBL, this would be a really awesome treat!

I'd try a Manix XXL, but this idea would be too small for me like the Para 3.

I'd totally buy a Manny3. Especially if it was a FRCP LW and THIN (both handle and blade).

No thanks. I'd be more interested in a Manix 2.5 (3.5?) Where it's just a half inch or so longer, not quite as burly as the XL, just exactly the same as it is now but stretched out about a half inch in the handle and blade.

I don't know, putting a cbbl on such a small folder is going to make it really wide for such a short blade, especially when closed. Also, this would essentially make it no different from the new q-ball, except with a little more belly on the blade and the cage around the ball bearing.

I'm inclined to go along with this. Manix 3 XL CBBL, 4 inch blade (minimum) and of course .145 thick blade, in at least s110v, with sprint runs in cru-wear and maxamet to follow ;)
Millies in S110V, CTS-204p, REX 45, PM2/S110v, Native 5/Maxamet, P4/K390, Pacific Salt SE/H1, UK PK
Wants/Wishes (only NIB and EU): Militarys in 52100, Maxamet, Cru-Wear, Manix 2/Maxamet

I would really like to see a return to the BBL.

My Manix 2XL is my favorite folding knife. But I would prefer a nice big steel ball in it like on my Poliwog. Why do we have the choice of only the CBBL, and not the BBL? Why has the BBL been relegated to near nothingness?

My guess is from all the complaints about difficulty in unlocking them/getting a good grip on the ball to unlock them. You may be fine unlocking them in random EDC but go clean a deer or get your hands greasy and try to operate both lock types and it's obvious right away that the captured version of this lock is far easier to operate. I love the simplicity of the BBL but definitely prefer the ease of operation of the CBBL.

I don't like the idea of touching any bearing or frictional surface in use. I wish they ball race was recessed and not in touch with fingers with the CBBL. I'd love to see a Military or Manix 2 XL in a powerlock.

Isn't the Sage 3 basically a Manix 3 with an ergonomically similar lock? I'd go for one of either, with LW liner-less construction.

Give it a (as i understand it, now expired patent) Axis lock and i'm on. No big fan of the CBBL..

Once a CBBL breaks in it's much easier to close with just a thumb, just as easy as the Axis IMO. Some new ones are pretty stiff though.

I have heard that, but a knife doesn't get a second chance to make a first impression on me, not with the amount of absolutely brilliant models around :)

Mine never did. Had an all black one for with BD-1 for couple months before I gave it away. Didn't get easier. Have the XHP model since January. Stiff as day one. Need to have a solid handle on the knife in order to close it one handed. I like the model, but due to this, it is not my favorite. Holding out for different run of the back lock Manix 2.
