What is the law regarding the carrying of knives in New York City?

Hi LaU. Welcome to the forum. I've heard that 4" folders are legal in New York City. But I would check with your local police for a more accurate answer.

Actually, it is < 4" that are legal. There are some interesting twists here too. For example, unlike some other areas, there is no distinction between FB & folders plus concealed carry is the legal way to go. Here's a link that a BF member posted for more info:

Greetings gentlemen,
hey Brian, you seem to be knowledgeable in this matter; are you from the NY area? If so, do you have any idea about the laws in NJ? In particular, a recomended way of finding out about the municipal ordinances? Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks,
Mac

I can't help you directly concerning NJ laws but here is a link to some knife law info on Bernard Levine's site:

Good luck in your search.
