If drafted, what
will you take?

If there is a draft, (I hope it doesn't come to that), then what Spyderco would you choose for your EDC? For myself, I am thinking about getting another Military in SE for such a purpose. As a back-up, I'd probably pack my Starmate in combo-edge.
What do you think? I'd like to hear any suggestions you might as to what would constitute a good fighting/military knife.
Take care,
~Michael

Simple.
My Military, Calypso Jr, K04, K05, Police, Native, Merlin, Jester, blah, blah, blah. :D

Nah, just kidding. I know what you're after. I'd single it down to just two. The Military and the Jester. The Jester would be on my dog tag chain and the Military would be carried in my strong-side pocket. According to the Spyderco book, Sal didn't design the Military as a "fighting" knife. But he surely designed it to cut. Besides, the Army issues tools to fight with, namely the AR rifle and the Beretta pistol. Why would I want to get into a knife fight when I have these tools at my disposal? It would be for utility cutting, something that it is quite good at!
The Jester, of course, wouldn't be used much. But it would be there. Always.
I was in the Army once upon a time. Not much attention was paid to fine pocket cutlery. I noticed a lot of Case knives. Zero fixed blades. And no Spydies whatsoever. This was in the late eighties, early 90s. For whatever that's worth.
There's also a risk of someone that outranks you confiscating your blade. Hey, it happens. Don't think you can just go packing anything you want. It is a very simple process. A sergeant simply says to hand it over and guess what.... You hand it over. This means you'll need a source for another Military, like a brother or a parent. Someone that can send you another at a moment's notice.
I've actually seen this "confiscation" happen with my own eyes. That's why I was surprised to hear about servicemen carrying Striders and Randalls nowadays. Maybe things have changed?

2 spydies and a glock...
Millie SE in a neck rig.
FB05 Temp PE in a leftie hori rig.
glock 23 in a canted forward right belt rig.
that'd be on top of the military gear provided.

LOL at 42 yrs old, by the time they draft ME you're already going to be in some deep doo-doo
But I'd say Chinook. Tough as a mule.

I am just a year behind Zrexxer, but to answer the question: Gunting and Rescue 93mm. These are two of the ones I carry on duty now on police patrol. If my assignment allowed open carry of a fixed blade, and I had a choice, the Glock knife. The Temperance is an excellent FB but the blade is shiny and the sheath is not up to rugged field use due to lack of a retention device.

The FB02, it would make a great companion to our Kershaw 1005 survival knife. RKBA!

WAYY too old for the draft now, did 6 with the jarheads many moons ago though and if I had to choose a to carry along again I think the Police in G-10 SE I just got would work fine, not that any Iraq's would get past me on the saw Ron

I'd pick the Millie CE and a SPOT for backup.
I deeply and very strongly wish that you won't have to see for real the "benefits" of war

In Holland we're no compulsory to military service, luckily.
Just hope there won't be a war.

Sounds like some good choices on military knives, gentlemen. I think I'll order a Millie just as soon as my finger heals enough to write the check...
Kaj,
Heh heh, I got a kick out of the "smoke some weed" part of your post. I know of a few people around these parts that'll probably do just that.

Not that I own any guns but i belive in the right to bear arms in self defense, so your quote brought to mind:
"Love, peace and firepower for every human being"
tying in with "an armed society is a polite society"
I would probably get a ComboEdge Military, although i doubt I will be drafted for a number of reasons.

Well at least I won't have to worry about that-Veitman was my time. I was lucky there.
But I think instead of a knife how about plastic sheeting and a roll of duct tape.
Isn't that what they wanted us to do here??

SpyderNut: There will *not* be a draft. Not in the near future, and prolly not ever again. There's no way it would fly in the PC times we live in. Plus, there are plenty of us volunteers to handle the job.
The last time I deployed,I took a Victorinox Swisstool and a Benchmade 830. On my next one(whenever that may be),it'll be a toss-up between the Swisstool and my Supertool, plus either my CE Endura SS or CRKT Ryan Model Seven. If things got bad enough that I was issued a rifle, and it jammed or ran out of ammo,I'd use it as a club before I pulled a knife. I have no illusions of being Rambo. No way am I going to get close enough to someone to use a knife. I'll find a proper weapon and shoot at a distance from behind cover.

I would want to take my SS fully-serrated Police model, and my SS plain-edge Delica...The same 2 that I carry everyday, anyway...
For non-spydies, I'd want to also strap-on my SOG PowerLock, and my Camillus/Becker BK-9 Combat Bowie.

As old as I am, I'll have to break with my Spydies and go with the Chris Reeve Project II clip point with the handle plumb stuffed full of Geritol and/or Jamaican Blue Mountain. Would have been great in SE Asia. The new black blade Perrin or Temperance look like perfectly acceptable back-ups.
Maybe no draft in the future but we all owe a debt for the freedoms we enjoy. COs or anyone can also go the Peace Corps, Americorps, or Place-Country-Name-Here-a-corps service route but as citizens or freedom, we all owe.
Stay safe! Stay sharp!

I'd take the Massad Ayoob, maybe the Gunting (have one on its way).
