Jess Horn C27P - What kind of knife is that?

Hi, I have been offered this knife from a local dealer. He wants 300 bucks for it (Brand knew, Mint Condition). Is it a fair price?

I haven´t seen the knife, it has only been described for me. Apparently, the blade is made of ATS-34 and it features stag scales.

But as I mentioned, I know next to nothing about this one. What´s you opinion on this matter. Should I go for it?

dePaul, this is an absolute jewel of a knife. I've never owned one but I have handled one. It looks more like a custom than a production piece, the clip is even machined from solid stock. They have been discontinued for some years but I think they originally retailed for around $450. I have seen mint second-hand ones sell for around $250 on the forums so $300 for a new one seems like a good price. Is it plain edge or serrated, the former seem harder to come by. Be warned, however, that it is quite a small knife. I don't have exact details but I would guess that the blade is about 2.5" long. Here is a link to a picture http://www.bladeforums.com/ubb/Forum52/HTML/001280.html

If it was me and I had the money, I'd be after it like a rat up a drainpipe.

Thanks Clay, very helpful indeed. Very kind of you to take the time and helping me on this one.

I immediately ordered the knife, before someone else does so!

I also saw the picture to which you sent a link. Nice!! It has to be the upper model. The dealer said, it would feature stag handle and ATS-34 blade but no spyder hole! So it has to be that one.
I am already in love, it lookes so sweet.

Thanks again, regards dePaul!

Hi dePaul and Clay,
I believe the handles on the C27 are actually jigged bone. Still a great price on a highly desirable Spyderco knife. Congratulations!<img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle>
John

DANG!!! Oh well, still have nine more fingers!! LOL

Thanks John <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle>

At the present moment I am just walking back and forth in my apartment not being able to think of anything but this knife.

Forgot to mention that it is the plain edge version.

Take care, regards dePaul

Congratulations dePaul, I don't think you'll regret your decision. Most blokes who have one of these rate them as the pride of their collection. I think the plain edge version looks much nicer than the serrated. Let us know what you think when you get it.

John, you're right of course, it is jigged bone. We're in the middle of a heat wave here and the old brain's not functioning too well. I also misssed the "P" in C27P so I didn't need to ask if it was plain edge <img src="sad.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle>.

Take care,

Clay

The handles were custom dyed jigged bone dyed to the exact "secret" specicifations of Jess Horn's custom jigged bone.

If anyone else is looking for this knife, please e-mail me directly. I have a brand spankin' new plain edge that I would love to sell to a Spydie fan!

Hi Clay and others!

Well, I got the knife today, at last!! The knife was in perfect mint condition. Brand new. I even received a pouch to it, with the spydie logo and zipper.

You were completely right Clay! It is like a jewel, shining steel and colorful, red/brown scales. The clip is a work of art! Do I have to say that I am completely enraptured?

Thanks for your advice, take care guys!!
