If you had to choose between the two, which would you pick and why?

Besides blade shape and no lock they are so different. I like my pingo with the thumb bar attached and it's wire clip. Roadie is great for a secondary blade. So pocketable and slim. I wish they would make a sprint roadie with different steel and scale material

While I don't have hands-on experience with them yet, I have been trying to decide which one to pick as my first slipjoint Spyderco.

In my case, I've been looking at the clip as a main differentiating factor. I think the Roadie would be better suited for simply dropping into the pocket. This could be an advantage as it may draw even less attention to it, if that is the goal. The Pingo could probably be carried in that way as well, but it does offer the extra option of clip carry, which can be nice to have.

In my case, I would pick the Roadie if I just wanted an unobtrusive, sharp edge that could be easily carried in a variety of locations.

However, if I was picking one to cut up some food or needed a bit more capability while still retaining the benefits of a small, two-handed slipjoint, the Pingo seems like the better option to me.

Pingo is a stand alone EDC, Roadie is not. It is that simple

I agree, plus the stock thickness on the Roadie makes for an obtuse feeling blade, despite the small form factor.

Pingo is a legit small user knife. The Roadie seems like a "better than no knife at all" choice and not something I would use on a day to day basis unless I had no choice.

Good choice. Black or orange or Ti?

Well, it arrived a few minutes ago. Not sure how I feel about it. It feels good in my hand. I wish it required more strength to close it, than what it does now. The worse fit/finish in any Spyderco or Byrd that I've ever owned. Large spaces/gaps between the scales and bar. Not flush along the back side. I'll spend more time with it in the next couple of days.

Well, I returned the Pingo, due to the extremely easy pressure that was required to close the knife. Something that required that little pressure to close is not something I wanted to keep.

My Roadie arrived. Much better in every aspect over the Pingo. Not quite sure how I feel about it yet. I understand the design philosophy behind the knife, so it doesn't make sense to be negative on aspects of the knife that were never intended.

I'm finding myself asking why I'd want to carry this vs a SAK, such as the Cadet.

Do you need something that won't open one handed, for legal reasons?

I've been carrying the Urban lately, and it's a great little slip joint knife. It's a one handed open, though.

Looking at your photo, whatever you put in line between the DF and the Chap is going to suffer by comparison.

No, no legal requirements as far as opening. Just wanted something different, less intimidating looking.

If you'll pardon the shameless plug :o

Steel quality. Ease of opening. Stronger blade (won't easily snap of bend). More ergonomic, with finger choil for safety.

While the Roadie doesn't appeal to me as I am a more traditional guy in a knife of that size.. I do LIKE my Pingo.. Super work knife in the garage.. John :D
