Byrd Hawkbill Frn to g10 swap?

I was wondering if the blade from a Frn Hawkbill could be swapped onto a g10 Meadowlark frame, or if there any issues i might run into?

I have long wondered that myself. I found the Cara Cara standard and rescue blades seem to match up even though one was FRN and one was G10. Have been meaning to try this but I don't have a regular Meadowlark.

My guess is that the parts are manufactured to a close enough size but it wouldn't surprise me a bit if they are individually fit for QC within certain tolerances that may be exceeded if you swap parts. If you swap the blade with the lockbar you may have a decent shot but I don't have both to make a comparison or attempt right now.

I wouldn't mind a G10 HAwkbill to go with my FRN one.

Bit of a revival. Anyone try it? And what about the titanium handles that are out there.

Hi Elshauno,

Welcome to our forum.

Though I've never heard of an attempt, I doubt that you would get a good fit.

I also doubt it, but for a Byrd, Hawkbill and G10, you can always find a G10 Crossbill

they are excellent :spyder:

Please, tell, is a spyder-edge on Byrd Hawkbill same/identical with spyder-edge on Delica or other Sryderco knives?

It works just as well from what I can tell. The angle is not the same but that's different from knife to knife anyway.
This is a spyderedge hollow ground knife. Some spydercos are spyderedge + full flat ground !

The Hawkbill was my first fully serrated pocket knife. I bought it on a whim and kept it for emergency use (until I purchased my assist). I was shocked at how easily this budget knife was able to cut through tough materials (rope and airbags). This is for sure a keeper!

I'm with you on that ! It's constantly near me when I'm at home, especially building stuff.

Now that I have my assist, the hawkbill will probably be relegated to household chores and gardening. I've never had a hawkbill blade before this, but now I'm thinking about buying a hawkbill shaped blade with g10 grips.

I'd like it too, I've found one new at my dealer. The Spyderco Superhawk, but it's in plain edge !

The serrations are different but work very well:
