I just received a LNIB Starmate from a trade(thanks, Jeff<img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>), and although I really love(and ALWAYS carry) my Military CE, I'd like to carry my new Starmate for occasional EDC as well. BUT,...how can a SpyderKnut possibly decide between these two excellent Spyders for EDC???

I have both but if I had to choose it would be the Military.Just can't beat that full flat grind.

Like I wrote on BF, try the Starmate for
awhile then alternate both until you decide for yourself which one seems best for EDC. They're both great designs. Sure glad to hear you like the Starmate.

As I said on the BF, I'd use the Millie as EDC. The Starmate is great but if you damage it it'll be difficult to find another one. OTOH, the Millie is a great knife and still available.

i dont own neither of them, but would go for the military if i had both <img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>. simply because the starmate is difficult to get hold of. i'm saving money to get a military (which i will put to some actual use, without fearing to mistreat a rare knife). OTOH if i liked the starmate way better i'd at least try to get a spare one.

Military. Why? Full flat grind, CPM440V, excellent ergonomics, big hole, the best linerlock there is and lightweight!

I was/am faced with the same dilema when shopping for my next knife. I finally decided on the Millie for several reasons. I plan on using it as an EDC and would hesitate to use the Starmate very hard. I think the Mil has more engineering and thought invested in it and I also like the looks of it better. Also, news of it coming out in S30V pretty much sealed the decision. (Now I just have to wait for it to be released.......)

BTW, thanks KBR, I had not seen the two of them together side by side. I believe I was under the impression the Starmate was smaller than that.

I think you should go ahead and use the Starmate as hard as you want to...it can certainly take it. It's just as lightweight as the Millie but with a stouter blade. After all, what's the point of having a great design like that if you are not going to actually use it? I just think that this model was "born to serve".

Many of us face this problem daily. Mine is complicated even more, as I have a 'Lil Temperance Leaf.

As many of us face the quandary - Why have a great knife if you're not going to use it?

I love all of my Spydercos, but I carry the Military and 'Lil Temperance about ninety percent of the time. While I have more Spidies, the Starmate and Spyderench come next.

I own two Civilians (Carbon Fiber and G-10), but I only have them for show. The Civilian is only meant to hurt people. However, I'm not aware of any folding blade that can do the job better.

One way or the other, you pay for your tools!
