OK,
Three general areas of the world
1) Jungle/Coastal - high humidity
2) High Steppe - low Humidity
3) Temperate Forest- mid-humidity

What three knives in what three steels (it can be a model with a steel that does or does not exist) must be a spydie.
What do you choose and why?
Use is general purpose, a bit more than EDC, will include butchering, early morning fire prep, etc.

A Military in:
1) LC200N
2) M4
3) M4 or CTS 204P

I prefer the Military as a user to all other largish folders and I've been using it for so long that everything is muscle memory. Works great with gloves too..
If 3 isn't too wet I'd go for M4 there as well.

These sound like chores suited to fixed blades. OP didn't specify fixed or folder.

LOL......how good are we at thinking of excuses to buy more than one knife.... :D

For outddoor usage I prefer fixed blades.

Coast: Jumpmaster 2 in H1 Serrated
Steppe: Gayle Bradley Bowie in PSF27 Tool Steel
Temperate Forest: Proficiant in S90V or Hossom Forester in N690Co

If I only took 1 knife for all circumstances I would go for Proficiant in S90V, just because I love the CF handle :D

You can use whatever you like :) I do like fixed blades but folders are very nice too.

When I see descriptions of environments like that I think of spending multiple days in the wilderness, in which case a fixed blade is always going to be my preference.

1) Rock in VG10
2) Southfork in M4
3) Bushcraft in 4V

1. Aqua Salt and Pacific Salt
2. Junction and Endura
3. Ditto

However, if there is extreme cold I would pick the knives of #1 or go with VG-10. In extreme cold a knife will go from minus zero to warm in minutes and rust will definitely form, even on the best stainless. Knives and guns made of metal have to be cared for in more careful ways in such places.

Hunting: Gayle Bradley Bowie spf27
EDC hard use: Manix 2 XL: S30V
Church and dress: Bradley folder 2; CPM M4

Rock salt for all situations. This knife is capable in all these environments and tasks. Of course if i was going camping I'd probably bring a few knives just to play around with. But for sheer versatility rock salt is hard to beat in my opinion.

This thread and it's subject matter are another valid reason I want everyone to take a hard look at Spyderco's past TEMPERANCE 1 fixed blade model. That excellent fixed blade was truly designed for harsh environments, outdoor and sporting uses as well as a great all around kitchen/culinary blade. It's one of the very few Spyderco fixed blades that was available in plain edge and Spyderedge both>> and both blades in both edge types are super.

I would like to see the TEMP 1 be brought back in a Sprint Run in LC200N or any other corrosion resistant and/or high performance blade steel>> but it must again be offered up in PE & SE both to give it justice IMO.

But if I was going to recommend a blade that's already on the main line up>> I would say the SOUTHFORK would be my second pick.
