I don't know about that. Have you seen The Deacon in a bikini? :p

No, but I heard on good authority, that when Paul wears his Odin's Eye bikini, his confidence is bolstered... :D

I think me and Paul have very different taste in knives. If I suggest anything, just throw it in the garbage. :)

I've seen the one off Stretch you made Paul, I think that's about as good as it gets unless you make another one and make the blade spine straight.

In 20 years if you're still doing this and you get to my turn... g-10 Hawkbill flipper with a nice high speed tool steel and a compression lock. I'll wait. :D
*edit* BTW this is a very cool thing that you are doing Sal. The sense of community here is why I keep coming back.

I was just thinking "When it is my turn to be an inventory of the forums there will probably be a Spyderco light sabre in the makings" :)
As for now i think the honoree should provide the design, within constructable limits.
I would make it the seventeenth Kopa or a Spyderco take on the D. LeMaire thumbwheel opened knife if it were me :)

For the love of God, no Boye Dent on the Deacon model!

Since anything is possible in world of ideas, the handles should be modular, with at least 3 different handles materials that can be easily switched out. One would a steel for acid etching, or engraving; one would be a bone; and one would be a paper micarta...

I think it's a cool idea, and I think for Paul it would need bolsters, natural material scales, pinned construction, ambidextrous lock and no clip. Maybe a bigger Kopa, although I think of Paul every time I see a Kiwi.

I agree with others, sal, this is an absolutely excellent idea!
I think the upcoming Fish Hunter is a worthy one of note for Surf Gringo, made in his honor :)

This and maybe include some engraving on the bolsters.

I'm pretty sure that the Deacon has mentioned in his 23 odd THOUSAND posts what his ultimate knife was, so we just need a volunteer to do a search.... :p

This sounds like a lot of fun, Sal. Very cool idea. :)

I agree with Paladin, Spydergirl88 and a few others: For Paul's knife, I would think a special custom version of the New Stretch II would be very apropos. He greatly enjoys the custom Stretch you gave him several years ago (the one with wooden scales and bolsters, sans clip).
Perhaps this Stretch could be made to match one of his other favorite custom Spyderco designs, the stag Kiwi? That would be exceptionally cool and I know several of us would also LOVE to have a stag Stretch with SS or even Ti bolsters for our own collections.

Take care,

Sal, this is a stellar idea.

And I agree with several above...a Kopa or Kiwi, natural scales, bolsters, clipless.....

And we need video when it is delivered to its namesake.....Have to see the look on his face. :D

I don't have much to add other than I would love to see this idea materialize. Seeing some of the unique Spydies from Deacon's collection, I know I'd be all over the design.

That is a great idea and "The Deacon" is a great name for a knife. Scale inserts and a wood sided Stretch sound like two important design suggestions. I would defer to a professional for the actual design. A camel is a fine animal, but it is what a horse would be if designed by a committee.

Deacon's ideal knife:

-superblue steel
-bright colored g10 with screwed on bolsters
-liner lock
-right hand non-removable pocket clip

With Paul it must be stainless and left handed. Practical too. Other than that maybe it should catch his eye somehow , but be balanced overall. This is an interesting topic. We will see how we really know Paul and how well we think we know him. I can't say for sure which lock he chooses but I'd lean towards mid back lock with no Boye dent. 2 3/4th inch to 3 1/4th inch blade. My guesses anyhow.

Does "the Deacon" have a pocket clip? I am guessing no.

Stainles for certain, bolsters seem a must, and a mid back lock without a dent as others have mentioned.
