Been thinking about this for a few days and it seems to me that Spyderco knifes are kind of the Glock of the knife world. Let me explain why I think this.
Many people say that Glock handguns are ugly(I think they look nice and I like them, heck, I own 5 of em') but they are as close to 100% reliable as you can get and hold up great and are very rugged. Glock handguns are an excellent handgun for the price point that they're in and they even compete with more expensive handguns that are on the market.

I think the same can be said about Spyderco knives. Many think they're ugly but even the budget knifes like the Tenacious make great EDC knives and hold up and work very well for the price point that they're in and even compete with more expensive knives. I think the Manix 2 is just as good as many Benchmade knives and it's less expensive to boot so you get basically the same locking system with good S30V steel(standard G-10 Manix 2) that'll compete with the Benchmade.

Anyway, just wanted to throw this out for ya'll to think about so I can see if anyone else thinks the same. Have a good one. :)

I like your comparison. I would also add that Spyderco knives are also the Rolls Royce, Porsche, Lamborghini, and BMW and old Saab (NOT THE NEW ONES!) of the knife world :)

A Spyderco folder coupled with a Glock fixed blade knife would make a good survival field knife couplet.

I regard my Glocks as able to achieve maximum effect with the least means (no unnecessary parts; no unnecessary flourishes). While there are certainly Spydies that are pocket jewelry, as The Deacon has many times demonstrated, the ones I have accumulated are minimalist in the sense I think you mean.

I can totally agree. There's an FRN model that could match just about every Glock out there. I think the comparison starts to falter after that though (a nirvana wouldn't be in the same class, and Glock doesn't really have a very diverse design), and I think that's my favorite part about Spyderco. You can spend a little, or a lot, and get a good product for your investment. The entry fee is small, and the sky is the limit for fit, finish, and materials. If I was going to compare Glock with Spyderco, the biggest point for me is that you get what you pay for.

I like Glocks too but I think you have it wrong. Glocks are the Spydies of the gun world rather.

If FRN Spyderco are the Glocks,, then it follows PM2 and Military are the Sig Sauer of the gun world.

I have owned guns of all sorts of makes and Glock is simply the best over all of any. I likewise have owned knives of many makes but Spyderco is simply the best over all of any.

Indeed. Owned a couple Glocks. Nice pistols, but much prefer Sig Sauer.

More like a newer 1911 if you ask me. Too me, Kershaw etc are the glocks.

I like my 2 Glocks. Looks-wise they're okay, and they are boringly reliable (probably just jinxed my club shoot for tomorrow!)

However I think Spyderco is a cut above, with some really nice knives with special blades and handle material. More Les Baer than Glock.

But then there are also the more entry-level knives, which reminds of a S&W SD9 or somesuch. So maybe S&W then?

Frank, I've long felt the same way.

I love great tools, tools that are well designed, well engineered, well constructed of good materials, comfortable and effective to use, and attainable for a good value... and above all, tools just that work well at their job, tools I know I can rely on.

To me, Glocks have a certain utilitarian beauty. I've had occasion to experience many firearms of various makes, models, calibers over the years. Heck, the new H&K VP9 almost turned my head lol... a new gun crush lol. But to this day, it's **** hard to beat a Glock, as the reliable tool it is. Especially a Glock 19, or even the new Glock 42 - quite possibly the most underrated Glock of all time. It's about the right tool for the job lol.

I think where folks find fault with the Glock / Spyderco analogy is the higher end, more expensive and rare Spydercos... there's no direct Glock comparison. But to me, that misses the greater point...

To me both Glock and Spyderco produce a beautifully engineered, **** good tool that just works - and is attainable at a good value.

Which is why I generally pair the Glock 19 with a Spyderco Military and Pacific Salt. Great tools I can rely on.

Of course, to frame my perspective, I'm not a collector, I'm a heavy user. Meaning whatever best tools I have, those are the tools I'm actually going to be using - and when I acquire tools, it's with that intent in mind. YMMV. :)

After extensive testing at my local pistol club. I have found that the Endura and the Glock both do a great job of cutting holes in cardboard.



:D Though the Glock seems to do it better at long range.

Yeah...except Glocks are better than Sigs....hands down when it comes to function. There is a reason that many Spec Ops team members use them. Just saying. Glocks are pretty darn good, not perfect, but darn good. Just like Spydies. :D :D

For me my Glock 42 and Manix 2 G-10 is pure EDC Perfection.

I think the Endura is Glock-like in its form and function.

Would or could Spyderco do a Glock like field knife and use VG10 steel and FRN for the handle?
