Got the opportunity to test the MAXAMET Mule Team.

Tested on 5/8" Manila Rope, cardboard, wood, power cord and HD Zip Ties.

Edge Geometry is 15 Degrees per side and sharpened to 400 grit for testing (40 Micron)

A few Out of the box pictures:

Rope Testing, made slicing cuts until 20 LBS of downforce was reached. Made 1940 cuts and knife would slice printer paper after, very aggressive cutting on rope.

Sharpened it back up for the Cardboard stage.

Cut 4,000 Linear Ft of Cardboard, would slice newspaper after cutting.

Wood Cutting to check edge strength.

Cut Power Cord to test edge strength.

Cut HD 175# Zip Tie to test edge strength and durability.

Impressions

Interesting steel overall, I think Spyderco did a good job with it, very aggressive cutter on rope. Reprofiling and sharpening was straight forward, I use 320 grit Silicon Carbide to reprofile and 400 grit Silicon Carbide to finish. Takes a nice edge and gets very sharp.

Ankerson,
Thanks a big mob! I admire your tenacity and am extremely grateful for it. After seeing your review of RWL34 I was looking forward to this. I don't own a MT Blade yet, but I'll rectify that directly. Thanks again!

Whyyyy? I really can not afford this right now. But if I miss out I'll be kicking myself down the road.

Thanks for the testing Ankerson. I'm personally glad to see that there weren't any major edge stability issues.

Didn't really notice anything major going on with the edge so that's good. :)

Thanks Jim, this looks very impressive for a production knife, I saw on your BF thread it came 4th on your list behind custom knives by Phil Wilson and Big Chris  :D

Thank you for doing this testing Ankerson!

Is there an available summary of the knives you've tested? I'd like to see where this one fits in with the others if possible. :)

Jim, thanks for the test. I am glad you included the durability testing of the edge. I was wondering about that. It looks as though it performed very well. I picked one up today and can't wait to play with it.

Jim, in your opinion, what other steel(s) would most closely compare to Maxamet in terms of edge retention, strength, and durability?

Thanks for the detailed review and pictures. It certainly makes my wallet sad, you know. ;)

Jim, Was sharpening Maxamet similar to S110v - more or less? For an average skill set on a sharpmaker is that something I can handle? (I assume diamond or CBN rods are a must)

Jim, I believe you're on record as liking S110V the most among Spyderco's production knives. Do you foresee Maxamet taking its place?

Your test has certainly piqued my interest. Thanks for the report.

I didn't think it was all that bad, reprofiling might take some time on a SM though. :D

About the same as S110V.
