Are all pocket clips stainless steel, even the black painted ones? What I'm getting at is, can I strip and polish a painted clip without it rusting?

Dan,

As far as I know they are all SS. I have done exactly what you intend on doing to several of my clips and have had no problem. If you use a dremel tool with a wire wheel followed by some Flitz metal polish on a polishing wheel, it will come out with a mirror finish. I actually prefer that look to the painted clips.

Good luck!

Dan:
I have been thinking of doing the same thing. Painted clips look like crap when they get scratched. My method will be to first strip the paint with a good paint stripper then polish with metal past. I use Met-All. It is like a jewelers rouge.

Fred let me save you some time and cash, the clips are coated, not painted.
No brand of remover i've tried so far even fades it, the best way is with a dremel and wire brush then polish as stated above, and no they wont rust <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0> Ron

The older clips have better coating than the newer ones. The clips like on the C52 Calypso jr, and C41 Native FRN are almost a baked on, non scratchable coating.

I have polished clips, and removed black from the bug... a dremel on the 2nd or 3rd setting works best.

Sounds like powder coating.
I will look for this on my next Spydie.
Still paying off car damage.

I have noticed that some Spydercos (My Standards for example) have a flat black coating that wears off on the sharp side edges first. Others, like my Dyad Jr. Seem to have almost a blued finish like a gun and wear better. Must be 2 different kinds of finishes.
