Spyderco Endura 4 (wave) Clone
Spyderco Endura 4 (wave) Clone
I just bought the Endura 4 with the wave feature and I think it's a fake. I bought it used. Does anyone know for sure if the writing on the knife should be etched or stamped (i.e.: Seki City)? This one is etched on. Thanks for your help guys.

Depends on the age of the knife. Older ones will appear stamped, newer ones (last couple years) etched. It's not a reliable way of determining whether an Endura is a fake.

If Fathis sends it to Spyderco headquarters could they use their equipment and expertise to determine if it is a fake or not? It may be worth it to you to send it in.

Sure. He could send it in along with $5 for return shipping. Only thing is, I'm pretty sure if it's a fake Spyderco won't return it.SpyderEdgeForever wrote:If Fathis sends it to Spyderco headquarters could they use their equipment and expertise to determine if it is a fake or not? That is another question I had as far as Spyderco policy goes, Teddy. If someone mistakenly purchases a fake Spyderco, and sends the actual knife to Spyderco for verification, will they return it to the person, since they did pay for it, or, will they keep it and/or destroy it?

I though I'd read that they wouldn't, but seems I was wrong. Below is from the Counterfeit Statement page in the Edge-u-Cation section of the website.SpyderEdgeForever wrote:That is another question I had as far as Spyderco policy goes, Teddy. COUNTERFEIT KNIVES AND WARRANTY REPAIR
Spyderco's warranty policy is fair and simple: We warrant that all of our products are free from defects in materials and workmanship. We do that because they are our products and we take full responsibility for their quality.
Logically, if we did not make something, we cannot accept any responsibility for its quality. It's that simple.
If you return a knife to us and we determine that it is not a genuine Spyderco product, we will inform you of that fact and return it to you at your expense. Under no circumstances will we perform any service or repairs—no matter how minor—on any counterfeit, knockoff, or other non-Spyderco product.

Re: Spyderco Endura 4 (wave) Clone
The first thing about the fakes is that the quality varies as does the indicators. With the Enduras, you may notice the face may have less grippy bi-directional scales, but that is more obvious if you have a real one next to the fake. Occasionally, the blade stock may be different from the stock measurements.
Still, the only thing I have found that all the fakes seem to have is the pins (female side) are not D shaped and neither are the liner holes. That is, the fakes seem to be circular all the time. I guess this is one of the cost cutting things.
