Re: RIP Muhammad Ali
Easily argued as the GOAT boxer, but his view of patriotism and mine differed quite a bit. Not saying I am right or that he was wrong, just different

Re: RIP Muhammad Ali
Met Muhammad Ali 4 different times in my life. First time... I came home from school to find Cassius Clay swimming in our swimming pool...(My dad was a retired pro boxer and good friends with Ali's trainers and manager) Second time we met was at the Thriller in Manila, (Made the trip with my father). Third time we met was at an interview he was giving Newsday (Long Island newspaper). A patient of mine was the sports editor and he knew we knew each other and asked if I would like to come to the interview and hold the lighting for the camera man. I said yes by all means...Ali remembered my old man but not me. (This was many years later after our first meeting) Last time we met was at a charitable function we both attended and at that point he did not remember me or my father...Was very sad.....that said... I can personally testify to the fact that we was a gentle giant, a true gentleman, an inspiration to countless amounts of people...young and old and one the greatest (in his own words) boxers of all time....He will be missed...RIP......Doc

OH I hear what you're saying loud & clean TBD and believe me I have a lot of mixed feelings about the controversies of Muhammad Ali. At the time he avoided the draft i.e. US Military service ( late 1960s) I was adamantly angry with him >> even though I was only in my early teens at the time. Because of having a lot of WW II, Korean, & Viet Nam veterans in my immediate family I was jaded to believe that anyone who avoided US Military service was not a good person.twinboysdad wrote:Easily argued as the GOAT boxer, but his view of patriotism and mine differed quite a bit. With that being said and with all the revelations I've since learned about the abased government and corporate corruption that transpired in that era and the era before it has now got me thinking in a completely different mindset. I can't read the man's heart only GOD almighty can do that but if he did for principles of what he believed to be right concerning what was going on at the time then who am I to judge the man.
But he sure popularized the sport of boxing and he became a huge icon to his race and eventually became a national icon as well. I wish his family the best and I hope history treats him fairly. JD :spyder: O

Re: RIP Muhammad Ali
RIP Muhamad Ali but I always believe that what separates a great champion from a mere champion is humility in how he treats his opponents...
