Decisions, Decisions

#1

Post by johns »

Just looking for help since I can't make up my mind.
Haven't bought any new Spydercos for a while and just picked up a Domino and a PM2.
Now I've got the bug againn
Been looking at the Military, Endura, Police and Manix 2 XL.
Just using it for EDC, but I don't want to have to go easy on it.
I'd probably try the Endure if I could get it with G 10.
I have a Native that I EDC'd for a long time and have really scratched up the FRN.
Thanks for any suggestions and comparison pics if anyone could post some.
Thanks

Maybe grab one of the 204P Military exclusives from KW's while they are still available, I know the one I got is a real beauty.
Happy to be part of this great forum and group of down to earth spyderco addicts, Thanks Sal and gang.

That's an awesome suggestion.
I was gonna recommend the Manix XL, but I'm with you Dan. He really should grab a 204P Millie while he can.

Try out the Manix 2 XL....it's rugged and you'll love the caged ball-bearing lock <especially if you've never had one before>.

The s30v is good steel and easy enough to keep hair-poppin' on the Sharpmaker...

The blue s110v LW Manix 2 is readily available for around $100 <great value>!

Welcome back to the Web!

The new Native 5 FRN looks like a nice small knife. One of the few FFG+SE options in production.

Lots of hawkbill and SE threads here these days. Have you considered a Harpy? I rarely carry mine but it's definitely an interesting piece. I recently got a Lil Matriarch (discontinued) which I find interesting as well and a very usable EDC.

Thanks for the welcome back!
I do have a few others in my collection: Natives, Harpys, Spyderhawk, Matriarch, Caly Jr. And even a Cricket. But I wanted to get a larger model for edc. The Green Military at KWs looks nice, but I'm thinking I won't mind using the Manix XL - where I might leave the Green Military in the safe.

Well......I think the Manix XL is just superb.
I also feel its ine of the best bangs for your buck too.
Good luck on your decision. Whatever Spydie you choose will be a winner hands down imho.

The upcoming 52100 Millie might be worth a look too. But like you said, for a user, you might want to go with something less "sprinty" like the manix xl. ;)

Nice to have you back, johns. :)

The Manix XL would be a good choice indeed for a HD EDC. I also like the Endura for a no-nonsense EDC.

A lot of folks (myself included) also like the Slysz Bowie. It's a heck of a nice all-'rounder that rides slim in the pocket, thanks to its Ti scales. The Gayle Bradley One or Two are also very solid choices.

The 52100 Millie is another fine choice, but is a Sprint so availability is going to be limited.

Welcome back home!

As others have said, a Military is a must have. It really does not matter if it is a regular production model or a Sprint Run. The plain old S30V model is a great knife and you can still sharpen it. There is a standard production Midnight Blue S110V coming soon. Of course, a Sprint Run is always nice, too.

I would also vote military. Aside from my SE H1 spyderhawk the millie has probably seen the most pocket time of all the spyderco models i own. Of course I've got a few different variations of the millie.

I've always liked the blue ones the most. Any speculation as to when this one might be released ;)

Not really. Knifeworks says it is projected for May, but I think it will be a bit later. I am waiting for this one, myself.

Well - I could probably guarantee that they would be released tomorrow by ordering the Manix XL today ;)

I like all your options, but for use and abuse I really like the Manix 2 XL, and my favorite is the EDC, GITD version available at the SFO...love that knife.

Looks like the SFO is out of stock, just checked EDC forum store (JSBurleys) and John is sold out also, I see them on the bay often, seems they have gone up in price some since they first dropped.

I agree with you BTG the EDC GITD version is a sweet piece, mine is super smooth and has great F&F and glows bright and long with a good charge.

I got real lucky then, picked it up at the seconds sale, they had a table of NIB stuff also on sale...was the most I spent on any single knife that day...but at 110$ ..I should have got a few..Dang!!
