New Sage 3 CF; thinner edge grind?

I just picked a CF Sage 3 up off BF in like new condition (love the patterned CF scales!) and while I was touching up the edge I noticed that it's ground to a thinner edge than my blue Sage 3.

Is this just sample variation, or has the Sage 3 had a CQI change to the edge geometry? Either way, this knife rocks! ...smoothest lock of any knife I have ever used.

I also recently got a recent production Sage 3 CF on the secondary market as well. Mine is ground very, very thin behind the edge, at least as thin as my VG-10 Caly 3.5.

Somebody that knows what they are taking about will chime in. However, I do know the are sharpened by hand and vary. I have 2-Sage 1s and a Sage 3. They seem to have a more obtuse angle then the Golden knives or Seki City. The whole angle/sharpening thing still confuses me somewhat but the people here explained it to me very well. Im the problem...

I'm not sure how you're judging the grind, if by sight or by caliper, but if you're going by the width of the bevel then it could just be a high angle on the edge bevel.

Edge grinds on my two seem about the same width, and both measure about .047 just above their edge grinds, but both are fairly early production of their respective versions.

...so on the older blue G10 Sage 3 I'm getting approximately .7mm thickness the length of the blade, on the new one (CF/G10 laminate) the thickness is .6mm at the heel and tapers slightly to around .55mm near the tip. This was measured by making an arbitrary depth mark on my caliper jaws (about 3mm, but not exact, since I only had one caliper on hand) to allow a consistent measurement depth.

.1mm may not be a huge difference, but the edge is subjectively much thinner.

Seems like both of mine are on the thin side, or Paul's are unusually heavy, since my measurement point is well back from the edge bevel, and .047" = 1.2mm

for reference my Chaparral is in the .5mm range and my HAP40 Delica gets as thin as .48mm at this depth back from the edge.
