Spyderco 2016 Production Prototype– Peter Rassenti Nirvana

The Nirvana is highly anticipated by many, and even when I got to handle it for a second time now, it remains an impressive folding knife. The one-piece handle was relatively thin and felt reasonably ergonomic in my hands. Personally, I would prefer a satin finished blade. I’m in the minority however, considering the attention and admiration this knife got at the Meet and the IWA show in Germany a week later.

As for the middle "ridge" (or hump) on the handle, I originally considered making it without the hump. In the end, however, the lack of the hump essentially disturbed the ergonomics--because, as you mentioned, the lack of the hump allowed the index finger to slide back into the recessed area. Although the Round Hole is fairly occluded from the left side, I am still able to open the blade using my left thumb with a little practice. The Rhino is a compact design that actually feels pretty comfortable in-hand.
First, congratz for the design and the result! I like it very much!

I apologize my comment about you not ever meeting a lefty.. but I get a bit annoyed every time I see a cool "I want that" Spyderco, just to realize it won't work so good for lefties. Techno is another good example.

Maybe we can get a 1000 run of lefty version of it? :D

Spyderco 2016 Production Sample – Pekka Tuominen Lil’ Nilakka

I actually got to see this little folding puukko last year, when it was shown as a concept model. This production sample of the Lil’ Nilakka was a cool gent’s folder. It was a bit hard to operate for me left-handed, but it is an appealing design. The blade was very sharp and with no guard to speak of, I’ll have to be careful not to cut myself when I finally own the production version.

There's not many designs Spyderco puts out that I can't find at least a small niche for...

But this Lil' Nilakka???

Are there any NEW designs left? So far I've seen only 2 completely new ( unseen ) knives. The rest is allready in catalogue or was shown in Las Vegas.

I can't get to Amsterdam and this pictrures are great every year. Is so exciting to see something NEW. This year is a little bit boring so far

That's what I was about to ask. Is that like a cream colored G10? I dig it.

Hi Folks!

As for now:

- Was it said at the Meeting if there are any plans for a SpyderEdge HAP40 LadyBug?

- The Nirvana Rocks. And Rules. Simply a Must!

- The Lil' Nilakka looks like a fantastic handsome pocket scalpel. Very nice and neat little folder. :)

Thanks for the photos, Wouter! Really enjoying the thread so far.

The Rhino looks really neat. Some have mentioned "mini Chinook", but the first thing that came to mind when I saw it was another blast from the past: It reminds me of a flat ground Blackhawk with a compression lock. Very cool!

** Edit: One more vote here for a wire clip on the Rhino if at all possible. I like them better in general, but on smaller knives in particular, I think they just make more sense.

I really want the Pattada even though it's a bit too big for my preferred carry size, and in much the same way, I have to admit I'm finding the Lil' Nilakka hard to resist. They are both beautiful designs.

Also, I can't believe how much amazing work Taichung is able to crank out. Those guys are on a rampage!

Well, then I have no need of one because I probably won't be asked back to the Embassy after the last dinner when I used my salad fork on the fish...and that burp certainly didn't help matters either, now that I think about it :( :p :)

I really like that Nirvana. But, at the price, it deserves a custom pivot (especially on the presentation side) and clip. Those two simple changes would really knock it out of the park. I suppose I could make my own clip, but I shouldn't have to. That said, it's still on my list of wants.
