Aftermarket scales for Spydies from bladescales.com – Allen Putman.
Hi All,
I am just in the process of ordering some awesome aftermarket scales from Allen Putman.
Anyone on here ever used his scales? They look super amazing and have had great reviews on Youtube, plus Allen is a really cool guy to deal with.
Three sets in total are coming my way, 1 set of orange & 1 set of red for my 2 Yojimbo 2 knives and 1 set of neon green for my (black bladed) Manix 2 XL. All in the Anso style pattern.
Now I have never taken apart any of my Spydies before and I am a little worried about screwing things up, especially as I hear that the pressed lanyard tube of the Manix can cause issues with taking off the old scales and fitting of the new ones.
Has anyone on here ever swapper out their original scales for aftermarket ones?
Any tips for a newbie?
Will post some pics of the new scales once done.

I have used Allen's scales on a Delica 4. I put the red G10 scales on a black bladed Tactical. The scales were perfect and the conversion came out great.
Just look on YouTube for videos featuring replacement of Spyderco scales. There are quite a few online. Just make sure you watch several different ones... There's more than one way to skin a cat.
Please be aware that most scale replacement requires a complete disassembly of the knife and you will void the warranty. I didn't worry about the warranty and as a matter fact my knife is better than ever!

They are top shelf. I have ordered off bladehq and his site. Buy without hesitation.

I've had several sets of Putnam scales - all super high quality! Great craftsmanship and attention to detail. :)

Oh my goodness, what beautiful knives.
Were the Manix 2 XL scales hard to install?
Cheers, Nick.

Hi, thanks Nick! The only one I still own is the Domino. All these scales were very easy to install. I think I got the orange sets off BladeHQ a couple of years ago. Allen now has some really neat styles available!

Hey Nick!! You are gonna love these scales my friend!!
The feel soooo much better in hand!
I have a bunch of sets and love dealing with Allen.....a great guy to deal with!
Here are 2 of mine.......Manix and a Para 2.
I had a You Tube vid playing while I did the swaps. Only PITA was the lanyard tube......just keep working them back and forth.
Good luck and please report back!

You will be very pleased with his work...just be aware your Spyderco warranty is void when you take down your Manix...
I have some Anso PM2 scales and the fit is as good as factory-- they are considerably thicker, however...not necessarily a bad thing.
