How many knives can one person own?

#1

Post by oooga »

I'm new to knives in general, I guess. My Spyderco Police PlainEdge arrived UPS today, and I was psyched. But looking around the forum I see people claiming to own 100+ Spyderco knives. Spyderco doesn't even make that many knives! Someone please explain this culture to me.

Over the years Spyderco has made alot more than 100 knives.Just on the Ploice there is SS PE
SS se
SS CE
SS PIG
G 10 PE Hollow
G10 SE hollow
G10 PE Flat
G10 SE flat
Almite Alum.
Uncoated alum.
and I think there was a Ti
Probably missed a couple. As far as the culture,it is like collecting any thing else. You tend to want to get as many in your collection as you can.I know of people that collect case knives that have several thousand.
Welcome to the forum. If you are like most you will understand the need to get more Spydercos after you get the first.

Forgot about the CFs
CF LH PE
CF LH SE
CF RH PE
CF RH SE
So that makes at least 15 Police models. And this doesn't even count the differants steels that have been used in them.VG10,Ats55,G2.

Oooga,
Welcome to the Spydie forum!!!
I wish I owned 100 Spyderco's! Also every now and then Spyderco will do a limited run of knives(maybe 500 or 1200), so besides what you see in a catalog, there might be more out there floating around.
There is a Ti-handled Police. I have one, full serrations. Great knife the Police.
I carry 5 Spyderco's daily. The Police is one of those 5.

Welcome aboard. I hang around this Forum for a while and still discover a new variation to a particular model or an experimental one I did not knew of.

oooga - wishing you a warm welcome here.
If yer lucky you will have a hard time understanding the culture - cause once ye do, it will be a matter of changing yer direct deposit paycheck from the bank to Spyderco. It really won't hurt, cause Spydies are <font color=blue">sharp</font color=blue">

Al, I have</font color=blue"> to forget the Blanchards and the Santa Fe Stoneworks versions - cause I can only direct deposit my meager retirement check one place - and I do believe that Spyderco has mine at the moment.

Welcome, ooga. When it comes to owning knives, it is the same as with sex and money--there is no such thing as "too much."

Howdy Oooga! Welcome to Land!

I don't limit myself to s, and have around 50. In other words, I am a collector. I carry almost all of my knives in rotation, so they all see pocket time.

I could get by with one, but why?

Never underestimate the impossible.

Hey there, oooga!

Welcome to Spydieland! The culture will grow on you if you hang around here long enough. To paraphrase Patagordo
quote:
I want all !

. When it comes down to variations, special issues, the kitchen models, and anniversary knives, co will definitely have more than 100 knives. The Police is probably Spyderco's most successful model and I don't think we've covered all variations. In addition to the others, you can also have the Minis in necklace or tie clip formatts.

The C07 is a great starter and once you find how balnced and useful it is you may end up like the rest of us who tried to defy the old "Bet you can't eat just one!" saw without success. How are you liking your Police so far? I guess the answer to your question might be answered with another - How many knives are there?

Thanks guys for the intro. I'm loving my Police so far; I can draw it and flip it open in under a second, mainly because I've been practicing without rest since I received it. I never plan on taking it out of my pockets again except to change pants and board airplanes. However, I just can't see myself ever wanting another one. This one is just too perfect. Except... maybe a left handed one for my right pocket? And that titanium handle sounds tempting...

And it's Wisconsin! oooga -

WELCOME ABOARD!!!! You got a great

start with the "Police" model ; give

you some "good advice"( as an ex-friend

of mine in New Haven used to tell me)

but mine is GOOD : forumite glasshartt

sells Spydies below MSRP to Us

forumite(s); last check she had your

"Police" for $80 plus USPS shipping.

Don't take it too bad, though, once I

found ths "fertile" source I later

found justification for my purchases

made with OneStopKnifeShop.com by

buying from glasshartt (Linda)

E-mail her for a comprehensive list :

The ideal number of knives to own is: Googolplex.

It would take several million lifetimes to reach that, right?

Kahz, never tired of knives...

Assuming an average weighs a skimpy 4 ounces, 1100 of them would weigh 1.135x1099 kilograms, a grand total of 1.89x1074 times the mass of Earth itself.

At that mass, your box o knives weighs 2.25x1068 times the mass of the Sun, causing all the planets to spiral towards the bladeware, causing a great cataclysm!

Oh well. It was fun to have a googolplex of blades for a while, at least.

Never underestimate the impossible.

AllenETreat, thanks for the advice, but... although I'm new to Spydies, I'm not new to the internet. Might I suggest a brand-spanking new tool for finding cheap-*** stuff? froogle.google.com lets you search all the sites google detects as selling something. I bought my police for $72.99. Including UPS shipping.
