Hey Sal,

Whats the long term plans for the Caly family?

Obviously lots of discussion based on the discontinuations over the past couple years. Hoping to gain some insight.

Thanks...

I'm also very curious. The Calys have been, are, and hopefully will continue to be one of the best knives made.

I'd like to see a 3.5 or even a 3.25 with some sort of solid, textured CF and a "super steel" other tha ZDP-189. :D

I know it probably won't happen, but I'd give about anything to see a Caly sprint with smooth black Micarta.

I can only say I hope Golden will be where they are made...just not that different from the G10 Native and a better knife to me. Native gets all the sprints, Caly 3.5 gets all the love

I wish they would start using polished micarta on a few, some would look really good with it.

If they are getting retired then so be it. I understand that some models must go to make room for new models. I don't have to like it but I can accept it as long as they are still viable sprint run options. Please tell me that there will be more Caly3s in my future. Please!!! Maybe if the HAP40 run goes well and feedback on the steel is good then we could get a HAP40 Caly3?

Maybe we can use the discontinued Caly 3 as an excuse to make a Hap40 Caly 3. :)

Subscribed for news.

A question at the top of my mind regarding Spyderco.
I just haven't asked directly yet since I have faith in what they are doing, and patience to find out.

The Caly/Calypso is a defining staple and pillar of the Spyderco line-up. It cannot just fizzle out. :spyder:

I'd like to see a future version of the Caly without blade play, which exists on all 8 of my Calys.

Compression lock Caly would be nice, or upgraded backlock with the pin stop.

But honestly, if it has that super useful and highly refined Caly blade shape and size + slim handle + deep carry, I'll buy it, regardless.

I wonder if the new Mantra is as close as we will get to a new Caly. I can't wait for that blade.

I couldn't imagine that the Mantra would even be consideed a replacement to a Caly design. It has no 50/50 choil!

Much more Delica'esque in handle design than Caly, IMO.
Going back to Caly.

I agree, but you must see the resemblance when it's closed!

Not mention being solid Ti and a frame lock. :)

It's kind of up on the air at this time. We've been having some problems with the maker and some quality issues. We're still working with them trying to get it sorted.
