Patrick, I really like your shots. Taking a completely normal setting and looking at it from a new perspective is a great way to get cool shots.
And thanks for the kind words Kyle :)

Chuck, I like the honey pic. I was suprised you changed it. Do you keep bees? I garden and keep chickens and have been talking about setting up a hive for years.

My parents have a few hives, and I really suggest you give it a shot. Once the hive is established, they are very low maintenance and provide a lot of honey even with a smaller hive set up.bearfacedkiller wrote:Chuck, I like the honey pic. Some folks get worried about having bees and getting stung, but when I took that picture I wasn't wearing any protective gear. They definitely don't really appreciate the harvesting honey part, but other than that you can go right up to the hive (albeit, on a slow and non-aggressive approach) and watch them go in and out.
It sounds like you are a perfect candidate for having a hive or two.
The most amazing thing is when the hive outgrows the boxes. When that happens, they spawn another queen and the hive splits and one queen + a ton of workers/drones take off and go land somewhere nearby. While the whole gang swarms around the queen, scouts go out and find a new home. If you are lucky, you can have another hive box ready and clip the branch or whatever they are on into your box and use that swarmed group as another hive of your own. It is VERY cool to see.
When my position in life allows for me to keep bees, I most certainly will. I will put up a few more pictures of the bee photo shoot, there are some cool ones!

The honey ones were my favorites too. Very cool.

Hey Chuck, my wife's favorite picture was also the one with bees and honey comb. Great shot!

Some recent photos:

And some action shots:
Warhammer 40000 is- basically- Lord Of The Rings on a cocktail of every drug known to man and genuine lunar dust, stuck in a blender with Alien, Mechwarrior, Dune, Starship Troopers, Fahrenheit 451 and Star Wars, bathed in blood, turned up to eleventy billion, set on fire, and catapulted off into space screaming "WAAAGH!" and waving a chainsaw sword- without the happy ending.

Re: Alternative Calendar Contest Images
I did my usual procrastination as well... but resolve to do some shooting with the calendar in mind before the whole year gets away next time :o Here's a few more sort of prelim shots I made:jabba359 wrote:I did the same thing, procrastinating until near the end. Then I suddenly had a work schedule change and didn't have any time off before the contest ended, so I didn't get to do what I had planned. At least now I have a year to get the next picture done.Liquid Cobra wrote:As always there's some good stuff in here. Thanks for sharing fellas. This year I took a few shots as the weeks went by as a way to sort of "warm up" for the contest. Unfortunately I waited too long and found myself scrambling the night before the contest ended. What I wanted to do wasn't really working for me. My final submission ended up being a sort of mishmash of a few ideas. Not ashamed to say the blue light I used was from my force fx lightsaber!
Perhaps I need to buy a force FX lightsaber as well to improve my pictures, as yours seems to be working out great. :p

Re: Alternative Calendar Contest Images
Last year I went through the photos in the calendar contest thread and picked out the 13 I thought were best, and as I recall, 8 or 9 agreed with the judges. I plan to do it again this year just for fun. Another forumite and I were talking about doing this in the contest thread (viewtopic.php?f=2&t=68142). We could all make our picks and, on the honor system, post the number we got "right" after the final judging.

LOLOLOL no kidding man. I grew up around 6 of those beasts and they will destroy your couch for sure. If you own a Dane you may as well buy them their own couch.
